For all Banh Mi lovers in Thailand, I’ve finally ventured out to On Nut to sample the fine sandwiches at “Bun Me and More”. And it was a revelation. I managed to sample 4 types, the grilled beef, lemon-grass chicken, the pork belly and traditional as the owner will make half sandwiches of the differing offerings. The baguettes are freshly made and perfectly crispy. It’s a little tricky to find on Soi 56 Sukhumvit near the On Nut BTS, a 40 baht moto-taxi ride. The shop is located inside, courtside the "Swish Street Basketball Court" across from the hotel "Chateau de Sukhumvit 56". Get your moto-ci taxi's mobile number or arrange a time where they can come pick you up as it's a quiet street and I saw no moto-ci station outside the cafe around 21:00 and it can be a long walk to On Nut BTS in the hot season or during a rainstorm.
The clientele is mostly foreigner with a percentage of Japanese and venturesome Thais along with hungry/thirsty basketball players(with whom the genial owner,Syd shoots hoops with). Call ahead, the shop is so popular that they sell out quickly and have to restock. There’s a second location, “Bun Me2” down Soi 11...
Read more3RD REVIEW: They've lost their way. The sandwiches are smaller, the bread is like bland mass produced factory bread. I tried some of their newer menu items and they too were bad. The fried spring rolls were obviously of the store bought frozen type. As were, I suspect, the massively overpriced french fries. So sad to see them go this route. I order food from restaurants that I don't (or cant) cook for myself. Restaurants should serve their own food, not just frozen foods bought from Makro or some other store's freezer section.
2ND REVIEW: 5 stars: They've really improved over the last year. They've added some sauce and improved on the quantity of ingredients. Don't know if they saw my review or not but definitely much better. Best Bahn Mi sandwiches in Bangkok.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: 3 Stars: It's not bad, although not great. Sandwiches lack any kind of sauce typically found, so they are a bit dry. Nd not very full of...
Read moreThis place was recommended by a friend, and I didn’t realize it was going to be this far-Sukhumvit 56 is seriously far from Asoke! I ordered the grilled beef Banh Mi, which came in a big portion with lots of beef and a nice creamy pâté. Honestly, I think the filling tastes even better than in Vietnam, but the bread isn’t quite good enough—it’s a bit hard, and even after I tried to soften it before eating, it still hurt my palate. The place is located inside a basketball academy, so it’s pretty loud. I’d recommend getting takeaway or visiting during...
