We visited Rawai Seafood Market while exploring southern Phuket, and it was a real highlight of the trip. Located right by Rawai Pier, this market is a bustling spot where you can pick your fresh seafood from local stalls and bring it across the street to a restaurant that will cook it for you on the spot.
The variety of seafood was impressive—live prawns, crabs, lobsters, squid, and even exotic shellfish. Prices were clearly displayed and felt reasonable, especially compared to more touristy parts of Phuket. We picked some prawns and a fish, and had them stir-fried with garlic and chili at a restaurant just opposite the market.
The experience felt local and authentic. There’s no air-conditioning or fancy seating, but the vibe is lively and real. What made it extra special was choosing our own seafood and customizing how we wanted it cooked. It’s a great way to enjoy super fresh seafood in a way that feels very Thai.
Highly recommend this if you’re into food adventures and want to try something more grassroots while in Phuket. Come hungry and early for...
Read moreInteresting place, good selection of seafood, came here for dinner several times. Don't be afraid to haggle with sellers, you can easily knock 10% off the final price (just print your price on their calculator, based on the price offered by the seller). Near the market there are many taverns and cafes that prepare purchased seafood; the price for cooking is approximately the same everywhere (100 badds per 1 kilogram). On average, a lunch or dinner with seafood and beer will cost 300 BD per person, it all depends on the amount of seafood you buy. Near the market you can visit a long pier going into the sea and excellent shops with a large selection of processed shells and sea souvenirs. You can also get to the village by bus for 100 BD per person (there is an air conditioner), the bus runs on schedule, the latest one leaves the village for the Airport (passes Kata, Karon) at 19.30, it is better to check the current schedule at the bus stop, from the market to the stops take about...
Read moreCorrection. This market should hv been rated below 0. Meaning negative ratings. Visited yesterday with friends fm overseas. Shocked by the seafood prices & pushy vendors. This used to be a market run by the local sea gypsy fishermen. My early visits 15 yrs back recalled the friendly smiles with freshly caught seafood at reasonble prices. Though no English was spoken and no electricity was available to light up the stalls, the shopping experience was satisfying. Now the stalls are manned by sleak city folks who can manage multiple languages in pushy salesmanship. All stalls charge Patong restaurant dine-in prices. 2800 baht for 1 kg of "farmed lobster". 800 baht a kg of blue crab. 1500 baht a kg of "farmed Saba grouper". All fish were identical in look and size like they came off a cookie cutter. The salesmen though insisted that they were from the "wild" and freshly caught in the morning. Really????? Please avoid this place...
