Down a long alley, adjacent to a car park and surrounded by apartments and offices is not where you would expect to find a top class burger joint.
But this is Bangkok, everything is possible, and thank Buddha for Barney’s Burger (BB) and its unique location in Ari.
Walking in from the main road you first smell the fab burger aroma, see smoke from the cooking area, and then the bright lights of the shop and courtyard dining space.
Ordering at the counter, the BB menu is concise but just perfect for burger connoisseurs - they offer five or six options and no crazy, gimmicky options (which is fine for me, I like the basics). They also serve grilled sandwiches and have fries, curly fries, tater tots, and dirty fries as side orders.
As a smash burger aficionado, I ordered a single patty Trucker burger and side of fries, paid up, and sat at a table in the courtyard enjoying the country music soundtrack (Glen Campbell is so underrated).
About 10 minutes later the Trucker burger and fries was delivered and what a sight for hungry eyes! The burger was just the right size - not small, but also not whopper proportioned. Lifting the top bun, the burger was filled with crispy smoked bacon, grilled, gooey, delicious melted cheese, pickles, onion, and a BB special sauce that tasted like ranch - a nice blend of sweet and tart.
All great to me, but the real piece de resistance was the smashed patty. Juicy, smoky, and flavorsome in the middle and crispy and crunchy around the edges. It was, in short, the best patty I’ve eaten in Bangkok and right up my alley.
The fries were thin, crispy, and not over salted - again all plus points and I spent the next 15 minutes slowly consuming the Trucker burger and fries.
All up, a great dining night out and I plan to make a monthly trek to BB for this BKK burger experience like no other. Besides sodas and water, I think you can also order beer or cocktails at the other vendor stalls -...
Read moreA truly hidden gem, didn’t know what to eat. Stumble upon this little burger joint, and to my surprise it was really good. Tried the Beef Bacon Cheese burger which was really juicy and cooked well. With ample of vege that packs a nice crunch on the burger.
Fries were thinner than usual, but they were seasoned well and very crispy. I think a level up would be to incorporate garlic into it. Frying the fries with whole garlic would bring it to the next level.
Prices are a bit steep, but would return as the taste kinda justifies it. If this was a restaurant, then the price would have been easily justified.
Visited again after 5 months 12/5/2024 Ordered the trucker this time. Was really good as well. This time I ordered the tater tots, which was really nice as well for hashbrown lovers like my self. More crisps = more Fun am I right?
Good to see the place is still holding up strong. Wishing one day they would be a restaurant with air conditioning haha cause it’s really hot out here in...
Read moreIn my top 5 favorite restaurants of Ari. Reminds me of a burger shack in Upstate NY on a summer day. Nostalgic for me, novelty for others.
The staff here are really awesome guys. They all deserve a pay raise if they don't get one lol. Super friendly, cool, and helpful. Watching them cook is even better. That service line is a well oiled machine and the chefs are dishing out the dank.
The food is on point. Doing classics really really well. Taste like this recipe has been perfected for 50 years. Again, nostalgic of American Burger joints that have done this for me in the US. Burgers, fries, vegetarian options. I've tried almost everything. You should too.
Do yourself a favor and cross Phahonyotin and take that short brisk walk from Ari 1. Super worth it. Also many cool coffee shops on this...
