Villa Vanilla — Restaurant in Songkhla Province

We were here on a Thursday night, place had a nice atmosphere. There is a large main bar with live music but also a more quiet bar on the side with beers on tap. Waiters were friendly, too. We sat at the bar so ordering was quick. Drinks were okay, one drink was very tasty whereas the second one was okay, nothing special though.

Be careful when paying with a credit card, in our case the waiter swiped the card on his own at the counter instead of bringing the terminal to us. He charged our card in our foreign currency rather than in Thai baht with a 5.6% markup and we were not asked if we wanted to charge the card in Baht or in our foreign currency. Luckily, our total bill was only 560 baht but if it’s a larger transaction, the extra 5.6% really adds to the bill. The printout even said that the customer agrees to the mark-up yet this establishment does not ask their customers for permission which I find a bit dishonest. I’m not sure if this was the waiter not being trained properly or if this is a scheme targeting foreign visitors, let’s hope it’s the former. Found the bar over Google maps. The roads leading to the place is dark, but you'll notice the entrance on that had small fires lit at the side of the building once you get closer.

Upon coming, waitress explained the different rooms, for cocktail, craft beer and wine upstairs. Every room has an atmosphere of its own and you can choose which to stay in while being able to order any of the drinks over.

We had the Bee's Knees at the cocktail bar, which I highly recommend. The cider beer on tap was excellent for a sweet beer, and for a stronger beer, can go for their IPA crafts. I came here twice in the row and wow, the service was really good! I came for the cocktails and was ushered to a room that’s for cocktails. Cocktails tasted really well so much so I ordered 3 glasses!

What really sets them apart from other places was the service. I was feeling really cold sitting underneath the aircon and the staff offered his own jacket knowing that there was no other seats to move me to.

They even offered welcome shot and cheers with me. I went alone but I felt really relaxed and engaged. Everyone was so welcoming and fun! I’d definitely be back when I visit...
