Akbar indian restourant — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

My partner and I normally order a bread and a rice to share as well as a curry each. We feel this is a good amount for us where we leave full but not bloated and uncomfortable. The garlic naan was well cooked and delicious, the vegetable biryani was tasty and I had the butter paneer and my boyfriend had the chicken dopiaza. Portion sizes were good and we felt comfortable and not bloated. We had two beers and we found the meal to be one of the most cost effective meals we had in Koh Sumui. Service was attentive and friendly. It was a busy night and there was some wait for the food. We were given complimentary poppadoms to start. Food was good, the amount of paneer in my curry was generous and the curry had a nice consistency. The waiter asked us how hot we wanted our curries and we felt a medium was tasty but with a slight kick. We've travelled the world and India as huge fans of Indian food. I cook traditional recipes at home from 60 year old authentic Indian cookbooks. It's my thing! So take it from me that Akbar is amazing. £35 for a family of 3. Dahl Makhani and Prawn Tawa are only 2 highlights in an amazing menu. This really is one of the best Indian restaurants we've ever been to. The chefs (the owner & his wife) are clearly exceptionally skilled in their art. Excellent food, good prices and engaging, welcoming staff. What more could you want? Looks nothing special from the outside and if, like us, you're having the 'should we eat Indian in Thailand?' debate........well...

This place is dope, dope dope dope. By far my favorite restaurant in this part of the island and dare I say maybe the best Indian on the entire Island. The staff is extraordinary friendly, among the friendliest I have ever seen. The food is absolutely delicious, some of the best Indian outside of India I have ever had, and the prices are absolutely reasonable. The service is magnificent and they will look after you with everything. If you are in this area and need a break from your usual Thai food, this place please.
