Art Cafe — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

I rarely leave any reviews but I have to this time. First of all, I must say I love that place, very cozy, nice atmosphere. Food is very good, coffee brutally overpriced but one can expect that, it is opposite to a yoga studio. The only problem was a one member of a staff, bit broken English, kind of sleezy who probably decided I was not his favourite customer when I admitted I was not from Russia or Germany and did not want to engage in weird conversation with him. Few times when I paid I realized the bill was bit different 10-20 B but I thought I made a mistake and let that go. This morning I ordered a smoothie bowl and a chocolate croissant and should pay 200 B, the bill was 240 B, he said the croissant was 80 which his superior confirmed. The price tag was the same for all pastries. Ok, not so good but understandable, but when I pointed out that it is in fact 230 B, he got very rude and defensive and said ok 235, he tried to even haggle the price! When I finally paid and said calmly that I do not like this behaviour, he started mumble something in Thai! Unbelievable, I do not care for extra 10 B of course but this behaviour is unacceptable. It is a shame, I love the place and all the other staff is so lovely but sadly even if one person cheats the customers, I do not feel safe there anymore and thus I am never...

The place itself is amazing - nice decor, lovely music and it generally has a super relaxed feel to it.

However, I cannot give more than two stars because the staff and especially the owner are incredibly rude. They almost seem reluctant to serve you whilst giving you a look of contempt. Furthermore, when asked about the price increase of a drink I had two days prior for a lower price the owner mumbled something in Thai to the other staff members who then all laughed. This sort of attitude definitely wasn’t appreciated.

Furthermore I’ve noticed that certain people are being asked to pay beforehand (mainly more alternative looking people or non-white ethnicities), while others (including myself) were allowed to pay afterwards. I’ve seen another review here saying the same thing so apparently other people had the same impression.

We were here for breakfast, I had ordered a tropical smoothie bowl, the topics I had to choose by myself. They prepare the bowl totally different as I got to know it on the island. Here it is made with frozen Banana's, which can be a nice fresher but for me, to be honest, it was only cold and you couldn't tasted the fruitiness of the bowl as it should be. it can be a nice thing to choose the topic by yourself but you can also make some mistakes in the combination, here I prefer a given combination which matches to the selected bowl.

For drinking we had a coconut green tea, very tasty you have to try when you are there.

Not really a great selection for vegans who want something hearty for breakfast, but they have many vegetarian options.
