Babaloo Restaurant — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

Absolutely horrible experience! Stay away!

We’ve been traveling in Thailand for years, and this is by far the worst restaurant experience we’ve ever had!

We arrived to an half full restaurant. Nobody from the staff bothered even looking at us - and we had to go to the counter and ask for a table and grab our own menus. After waiting for ages for them to take our order, we had to go back to the counter to place the order. There were no signs informing us about any kind of self service, and no information from the staff either.

We ordered two similar dishes, and waiting for over an hour and a half (!!!) for the food. Nobody checked in, nobody asked if we wanted more to drink or anything. There were 3 other tables in the restaurant. We slowly realized they were prioritizing take away customers over the people actually dining in the restaurant. It looked like the restaurant was family driven, something that normally results in more drive and more service! These people looked like they hated running a restaurant. I never seen staff looking this miserable. They did not care about us, or any other customers - and certainly didn’t give two rats about service! Stay away! Worst place ever! Go...

Had a meal here the other night and it was a very bizarre experience.

The vibe in the restaurant is quite unwelcoming we were not greeted when we arrived, the man who eventually took our order seemed totally disinterested.

The service by the two young girls was similarly odd. Maybe they are family and really don’t want to be working? If so fair enough for their lack of interest. This doesn’t excuse the man.

The food itself does taste nice and is very reasonably priced, albeit it does take a while to have your order taken and receive your meal. My partner had vegan meat which is rare in Asia in our experience. We were seemingly lucky as it appears others have had to wait a long time to be served on their visits.

The man behind the bar didn’t even look from the till when we asked to pay they just said how much it cost, no thanks or goodbye.

Never felt more unwelcome in a restaurant, especially not in Thailand.

Really unsure how the restaurant has a 4.6 average rating with such sub...

VEGANS BEWARE! While they offer a "vegan" menu, I asked for vegan Pad Thai and held up the vegan menu but then was served a dish that was full of egg. Not sure how much I trust the "100% vegan" claim for their fake meats if they think egg is vegan! I'm flexible when I eat out traveling so I ate it rather than waste it, but def losing a couple stars for that big of a mixup.

Other than that, delicious food for reasonable price (100 baht for pad thai) but if you're hardcore vegan, might want to stick with somewhere more reliable or at least specify "no egg!"

I also got an instant and severe reaction in my jaw immediately after eating, which normally I get from the tannins in red wine, but could have been from the lime juice? Anyway, food was good but I wouldn't chance eating...
