The aesthetic of this place is great and the owner was very welcoming. However we waited over an hour for simple eggs on toast and were sadly disappointed by the food. The toast was cold and the egg was undercooked. The coffee was also very foamy and weak tasting and we finished it long before our food as we were left waiting for so long. It was also very expensive for a very small portion of food that didn’t taste nice. There was also no update as to why the food was taking so long, which was frustrating. On reviews, the owner seems to blame “bad weather” when anyone has a bad experience here despite other businesses in the area having no issues at all even during power cuts and bad weather, which occurs a lot on this island. If this actually was the case, this should have been communicated to us on entry so we could have gone somewhere else instead of wasting a lot of time and money.
Edit: After reading the owners response, I just wanted to add. I did mention that the eggs were undercooked and the owner offered to make something else, so they were aware of this before I wrote my review and they was a little patronising in telling me about this particular dish and how it should be after I complained. As I said, the service was incredibly slow, it was over-priced and myself and my partner were not impressed by either dishes nor the coffee; I gave 2 stars for this, which is fair. We also have a similar dish in England called boiled egg and soldiers and while I appreciate the French version might be runnier, this egg was in my opinion, completely undercooked. It might be wise to ask people how well done they like their...
Read moreI was starving and, at the same time, eager to explore the small island. While checking the map, I came across Taoni, and the pancakes immediately caught my attention.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by an energetic and very friendly lady. I ordered an avocado on toast and a pancake. The wait was quite long—around 40 minutes, maybe even a bit more. At one point, I even considered going somewhere else so I wouldn’t lose more time in my day. But then, my order arrived. Visually, it was flawless.
During my long nine-month journey, I’ve developed the habit of trying avocado on toast wherever I go. And on this particular day, I had the best avocado on toast of my entire life. The pesto sauce mixed into it was an absolute game-changer. I ate happily, completely forgetting about everything I had planned for the day. At that moment, all I wanted was to savor that magnificent breakfast (or brunch).
The pancake was just as impressive, instantly taking me back to my time in Japan, where I had some of the best pancakes in the world for breakfast.
That was my experience at Taoni. I truly hope to return one day and try more dishes, as everything on the menu looks...
Read moreTaoni Café and Restaurant is one of those rare places that instantly makes you feel at home. The owner, a wonderful French woman, has built something that feels both cozy and full of life. She’s generous and welcoming and you can tell she truly cares about the experience of everyone who walks in.
The food here is just beautiful. I tried the avocado toast and it was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly creamy with those grilled tomatoes and eggs on top and that touch of balsamic that just ties everything together. It even looked like something out of a magazine. The salad on the side was fresh and full of flavor. Everything on the table felt bright and made with love.
The Italian dishes are also excellent so don’t miss them if you come here. The service was fast and a little funny in a charming way that actually makes the experience better. You can have a real conversation here and leave feeling lighter and happy.
If I could rate Taoni more than five stars I would. It’s that kind of place that reminds you good food and good people still exist. Definitely...
