Chinese living in California's biggest Chinatown here: CHNH is amazing, tasty and wallet friendly! The chef is from Beijing and prepares authentic regional northern Chinese cuisine. The portion is according to the price which means order like tapas style and share with the table. (To a certain reviewer: if you are a Westerner/Australian, don't come in expecting a certain dish or certain flavor as China is a big country and you may have only tried southern cuisine or Westernized Chinese food before. Please come in with an open mind and feel free to ask for recommendations.) Unlike many specialist Chinese restaurants in Thailand, the menu here is large so I come 3-4 times a week to eat different dish combinations. Cold dish combo: Cold beef, garlic cucumber (off menu) and sesame noodles if it's a hot day. Noodles combo/ if I want qq taste: ribs noodles and egg tomato noodles - has a nice sweet taste. A few chive pockets / braised belly pockets + spicy wontons and soup if I want to nibble. As well as a lot of mala dishes, which is the hottest food trend in Seoul right now. If you know Chinese food you can't go wrong with the OG northern Chinese dishes as well (beancurd, mung bean, preserved veggie dishes etc). Very grateful to have found...
Read moreMy partner booked this place for Lunar New year as it was rated number 1 for Chinese food in koh samui and it did not disappoint! Whilst booking a week before our visit the owner whatsapped us with the menu and prices, on the day of the booking he contacted to let us know that he only had 10 portions of the handmade Noodles and asked if we wanted any set aside for our evening booking (yes we did!) The dinner itself was authentic and delicious, we had Dumplings, spring onion pancakes, the Chinese version of burgers, handmade Noodles with belly pork (which just melts in your mouth), Cabbage and rice. All the food was incredibly tasty, homemade and freshly made to order and an excellent price. The hosts were friendly, even though clearly busy with it being the first day of the lunar new year, and still had time to chat with guests and make food recommendations. An absolute hidden gem in Koh Samui, if you love authentic Chinese food I would highly recommend a visit and order the hand pulled noodles...
Read more"Everything is handmade, apart from the pork and produce," John, one of the co-owners, remarked while presenting me with the dishes. Apart from freshness, authenticity is brought upon by the chef and the other co-owner who hails from China. The restaurant is her brainchild, from the menu to the decor to the recipes, most of which he inherited from her predessecors, and all of which she executes as a meticulous perfectionist. I could taste the passion of the owners through every bite while I was charmed by the minimalistic, cute decor and by John's conversation narrating the journey of the restaurant. John, who's from Singapore, was surprised to learn that I am Bangladeshi, the first to step foot into their restaurant. I noted I was glad to be venture upon their quaint, enchanting eatery and that every bite was scrumptious, particularly the handmade noodles with unbelievably tender pork belly. So much so that I am actually considering going to Samui from Surat Thani, just for...
