Coconut Home Workshop & Coconut Oil — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

Win was very flexible with us and we had to cancel and reschedule a couple of times due to getting sick. Appreciate that very much! In the end it was me and another European girl who did his coconut oil course.

We learnt how to open a coconut, grind the flesh both with a handy tool and a machine, make coconut milk and see the oil separate from the pulp and water. We could take our own coconut milk home and theoretically extract the oil. Sadly mine fermented very much overnight and the bottle was explosive. It's a bit sad that the coconut shells/fibers are burned and not used as well (for example to make garn).

The food afterwards was really good, especially the tea leaf salad that blew my mind!

I bought a 100ml bottle of pure oil for 150 Baht, which I consider a very fair price! But as a health professional I have to say: I'd only use the oil for skincare or similar, not for food. During our course we washed our hands only with more or less clean water, no soap. So anything fat dissolvable will go straight into the oil, like the DEET of Wins provided anti-mosquito gel. I recommend elevating the hygiene standards!

You need to get well prepared against mosquitos, there are hundreds.

The class was 650 Baht (04/24), and even though it's not much money for me, I considered it a bit much for the 30 minutes experience...

We had an unforgettable experience where Win taught us the beautiful process of making natural coconut oil. I am very grateful to have been able to experience each step of making this oil and found it so interesting to see the hard work behind it. Win is a man with an incredible story and with so much knowledge, you can feel the passion he puts in his small business. We also had the pleasure of sharing a home-cooked meal prepared by his wife which was simply delicious. I strongly suggest taking a tour, it’s definitely the highlight of my trip in Koh Tao, amazing experience! Thanks again for sharing...
