During our recent trip to Koh Tao, our group of four, later joined by two friends, had the pleasure of dining at Centrico Cafe and Mexican Restaurant. This turned out to be one of the most memorable culinary experiences of our journey.

The ambiance was both inviting and vibrant, offering a unique vantage point to observe the lively island life. As we savored our meals, it was entertaining to watch novice moped riders navigate the bustling streets, adding a touch of local charm to our evening.

The menu boasted a variety of authentic Mexican dishes, each prepared with evident expertise. The corn ribs were a delightful start, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The shrimp tacos stood out with their fresh ingredients and flavorful combinations, making them a must-try. To conclude our meal, the churros were simply divine, offering a sweet ending to a fantastic dining experience.

We were very excited to try this restaurant given the glowing reviews. The atmosphere was great, and our waiters were friendly, but sadly all our food was very disappointing.

To start, we had calamari which was very tough and dry. Our other starter, the chicken nachos, was a big portion with not much dip/sauces to go with the bland nacho chips. The slices of chicken placed on top were unfortunately also bland. For mains, we had quesadillas and beef tacos. One of our mains was forgotten about and arrived 20 minutes after the others. These mistakes can happen, I understand, but sadly the taco which I was eventually served was filled with more dry and bland slices of meat. The dressing inside was tasty, but was hidden amongst bland leafy greens. It wasn’t the juicy, dripping and delicious taco I was hoping for. My friends agreed that both their quesadillas were also underwhelming and dry, with minimal cheese, filling and flavour.

Perhaps we had a bad night or ordered the wrong food, but when multiple dishes are disappointing, it’s hard to ignore.
