As a previous review helpfully stated, this place is tricky to find. I would also point out that it is rustic to say the least and we found ourselves missing the second set of stairs on our way in and stumbled into what looked like someone’s residence. Anyway, we found the restaurant despite a couple of wrong turns and the views down to shark bay and across to another bay beyond were awesome. Having taken our fill of selfies and photos, we sat down, ordered some drinks and started to take in the menu. We were advised that there was no fish today, but seafood and everything else was available. Both our meals were excellent, tasty and had more chicken/ seafood than we had become accustomed to. The meals were tasty but not spicy. However the condiments on the tables were wide ranging - a mild chilli sauce, Maggi sauce, ketchup, olive oil, balsamic and salt & pepper. I had seafood with chilli and pepper with plain rice. It had the typical three or four large shrimp accompanied by lots of delicious squid. It was very tasty but it was even better (to my taste) with some extra chilli sauce. My wife had the chicken salad which she really enjoyed and commented that it was flavoursome and had much more chicken than seems to be the norm here. Our bill was less than we expected, especially based on the quality of the food. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here and have some fantastic photos as memoirs. The journey here on foot from the Haad Tien Beach Resort was hard work in the heat and definitely not for the infirm, but we are both in our fifties and are very glad we made the effort! Make the effort to get here and we’re sure you will agree that it...
Read moreIf you're staying at the Jamahkiri like us, I strongly recommend giving this place a go for dinner. We stayed at the Jamahkiri 4 nights and we've tried resort Thai food, touristy downtown Koh Tao Thai food, white people friendly restaurant Thai food, but nothing like this little family run homemade-this-is-as-close-to-Thai-as-it-gets Thai food. So disclaimer first: 1. It's not wheel-chair accessible. You have to go up a near 45 degree steep slope, then some big stairs. If you've been staying at the Jamahkiri then stairs shouldn't be a problem for you. 2. It's a family-run restaurant. The father catches the fish, the mother and daughter cook all the food. It's not fast food, but they do serve the whole table together, which I appreciate. We had the vegetable pad Thai. Best pad Thai I've had in Koh Tao. Something about it just tastes homemade and strangely comforting. Husband had his dream green curry here. He said it's just as creamy as he's ever dreamt. Even the fresh coconut tastes locally grown, like they probably got it from their the backyard. The BBQ mackerel by itself wasn't as good as the Seafood By Pawn fish, but when you dip the fish in the green curry... honestly that was the best dish. The view at Eagle view was something else. They're not on the second floor anymore, so don't think you're going to be sitting on some straw house if you saw old pictures. Now it's ok the 3rd floor and it's all cement and stone and the view is spectacular. It gets a bit windy, I would bring a jacket and a hair tie. If I had known this was here, I would've come here on my first night instead of Jamahkiri...
Read moreAnyone who gave this place more than 1 star is delusional. The location might seem promising as it sits on a hill with a lovely view, but that's where the positives end. The place is housed in an old abandoned building that reeks of mould. It's evident that it's fallen into disrepair; what might have been charming years ago is now a disappointment.
Getting to the place is a hazardous adventure, with access resembling a death trap. Dodgy boards and rusty nails litter the path, posing a serious risk to anyone attempting to navigate them. The lack of maintenance is alarming and suggests a disregard for visitor safety.
To add to the disappointment, the staff appeared disinterested in our presence, despite being the only patrons there. It's a shame because the potential for this place to be something special is evident. However, as it stands, it's nothing more than a wasted opportunity and a waste of time for anyone considering a visit.
On a positive note, there are a couple of dogs on the property. While they were lazing around and not aggressive, their presence did little to improve the...
