Happiness Restaurant (ทะเลถัง) — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

5/5 for location. Amazing view, right next to the beach.

3/5 for service. Not very friendly or welcoming, but also not rude.

3/5 for food. I ordered seafood platter. The portion size would good, but the fish was frozen and tasteless, which was disappointing for a seafood restaurant. I also saw two Thai ladies separately complain and have food taken from the table.

1/5 for hygiene - I've never seen so many fruit flies in my life. As soon as the food was placed at the table, 1-200 fruit flies (and other flies too) descended on the food. It was very very off putting and I was constantly trying to bat them away. I noticed all tables were suffering with it. The amount of flies across all the tables suggested to me the place wasn't very sanitary. I don't believe it was the heat / location / food type as I have eaten a 4 different restaurant in the same location and no others had this issue.

In the end I didn't finish eating the meal, paid and left. Due to the quality of fish and the fruit fly situation I give this restaurant a 2.5/5....

We came across Happiness after finding Charlie's closed, and we were super happy to have our dinner destiny changed!!

The waitress was so very friendly, and do not get me started on how adorabubble their dog is! I'm not sure if he is a stray that they feed or their family dog, but he is such a gentle and wise soul who loves pats. He did get most of my chicken the second time we went there, but I figured he needed it more than me 😍

From the massaman curry, the spring rolls, crispy as chicken wings, to the mixed vegetables and the seafood in coconut dish...all absolutely delicious!

Our second trip back was later in the evening (lunch was first) and there were heaps of local Thai's there, so you know you are onto a good thing when you see that.

We came here for my friends birthday lunch (even though he’s vegetarian, he picked!) - we have some Thai friends who made a call a day or two before to enquire about vegetarian options - staff went above and beyond to accommodate and said let them know whatever he wants and they would go buy and prepare for him when we came, very very kind of them.

We ordered a lot of on top, and everything was very very tasty, fresh, large sizes, prompt. Both Falang and Thai were very satisfied! We ordered so much we needed another table that they quickly added for us :’) freshest coconuts, quick service and above and beyond service.

Location was beautiful too, there’s tables on the beach too...
