The Happy Monk Seaview Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

NOT recommend! I don't know why there's such a high rating? we've been traveling in Thailand for three weeks now, and this is the first time we've eaten so poorly. The soup and fish were normal (the taste of the french fries was terrible! Either the oil was old, or already fried potatoes were fried again). The smoothie was tasty, but everything else was very poor. The staff struggles to speak English: we asked for extra forks to share starters, but they ignored us. The nachos are served in very hot plate, for some reason, the staff doesn't warn about this, making it easy to burn yourself.

In summary, you pay for a beautiful view, but it's not worth expecting delicious food. The fact that many people have given it 5 stars, who have only written 1 review in their entire life, also doesn't add any trust...

I recently visited The Happy Monk. The owners, a Dutch guy and his Thai wife, have clearly put a lot of thought into the menu, and it shows. I've eaten here several times and have enjoyed everything I've tried, especially the Pad Se-Ew, Yellow Noodles and Massaman Chicken were personal favorites. In addition, the staff is friendly and the cooks are really good - they clearly know their stuff!

The restaurant's open terrace overlooking the sea is a great feature and makes for a well-ventilated dining experience. However, the lighting could be improved - the spotlights are quite blinding if you're facing them.

Overall, The Happy Monk is a great addition to the beach and I highly recommend...

We were with a group of six. No problem they said. We ordered 4 fish and chips a burger and a wrap. Not 6 different dishes. We waited 1 hour and 45 minutes! That's extremely long. And all that for the food to be very mediocre. The fish was quite tastless and the fries were certainly not fresh. This place also took the n°1 place for most expensive diner. And we travelled an entire month. If they would have said when we arrived that the food would take long to make, that would be fine because we would choose to wait. Now we just kept on waiting. Without our choosing. Very disappointed in a place with that beautiful...
