If you’re looking for authentic Indian cuisine in Trinidad, Ahmarina is a must-visit. This cozy yet well-appointed restaurant offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring bold, flavorful dishes that showcase the depth of Indian spices and culinary traditions. Plus, everything is halal, making it a great option for those who seek that distinction.
I started with the Kerala Fried Chicken, a crispy, perfectly seasoned appetizer that was both satisfying and addictive. For my main course, I had the Madras Chicken, a rich and aromatic dish with just the right amount of heat. It was served with fragrant jasmine rice, making every bite deeply satisfying. The portions are generous—easily enough for two, so come hungry or be prepared to take leftovers home. Of course, I couldn’t resist pairing it with Garlic Naan, which was warm, soft, and perfect for scooping up the flavorful sauce.
Beyond the food, what truly stood out was the service. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you feel taken care of without the service feeling overbearing.
A surprising highlight? The mocktail menu. While Ahmarina doesn’t serve alcohol, they more than make up for it with well-crafted, refreshing drinks. The Green Apple & Chadon Beni Fizz was my favorite. I would go back for that alone.
To finish, I had the Pistachio Kulfi, a creamy, nutty dessert that was the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal.
With its inviting ambiance, impeccable service, and unforgettable flavors, Ahmarina proves that a great dining experience is about more than just the food....

Ahmarina has some of the most attentive and accommodating wait staff I’ve encountered in Trinidad (outside of our top hotels). Patient, informative and knowledgable. They also pack up the leftovers really neatly (which for me matters).
The appetizers my family tried were both filling and tasty- we had the Hong Kong mushrooms and Kerala Fried Boneless Chicken. Both were great. I’d return to have more starters and try a new mocktail. We ordered just one - a Mai Tai Mojito and it was both delicious and excellently prepared. (However please note, at around $75 the prices of the mocktails could easily run your budget way up. It is priced at the same cost of Alcoholic drinks but I assume it’s based on the quality of the ingredients used in the prep.)
Our mains were okay: not bad but not as memorable as the appetizers or the mocktail. We ordered a few south indian dishes and shared. However, the Aloo Kulcha was delicious.
I was disappointed the coffee machine was not working and while they had masala chai made from scratch, it was not the best I’ve had here in Trinidad- it was a bit weak.
My suggestion if you’re on a budget: try several appetizers, skip the hot beverages and enjoy a mocktail...
Read moreAmbiance: extremely small space with no privacy or space to eat; the non-alcoholic bar takes up an unusually large area and is staffed with about 3 people at any point in time for some strange reason. Overall, it was an uncomfortable experience.
Service: inexperienced, untrained staff, with little knowledge of the food being served. They were all kind and polite though. There seemed to be no manager to address our concerns. Overall, the service was terrible.
Food: It took over an hour to get appetizers and even when we received it, it was.only one of three we ordered. Suffice it to say, we ate our main course almost 90 mns after arriving. There was also no kids menu. Overall, the food was okay.
Cost: Many things were averaged-proced, but some things were a clear rip-off. The Malabari Coconut Shrimp which cost almost $200, literally contained 5 shrimp....but plenty sauce. The Butter Chicken was no different. Overall, it's...
