At first glance, Dar Zarrouk in Sidi Bou Saïd looks charming from the outside. The entrance also seems nice, but once you step onto the terrace, it is honestly one of the worst I have ever seen. Nothing special at all: just uncomfortable tables and chairs, no decoration, and even the floor looks unattractive. The lamps only attract mosquitoes, making the experience even worse. As for the menu, it is very limited and almost entirely seafood-based. I ordered shrimp ravioli, but to my surprise, at 8:30 p.m., they were already unavailable. I had to choose another dish and then wait over 30 minutes to receive our food. On top of that, they made a mistake with my order: instead of the beef steak I asked for, they brought couscous. Clearly, the service is very disorganized. When the steak finally arrived, it was cold and extremely bland. I asked the manager for a solution, but he simply reheated the same dish and brought it back, claiming it had cooled because of the wind. Honestly, that excuse was unacceptable—it was August, with temperatures above 34°C, and there was no wind strong enough to make food go cold. The truth is, it was simply delayed.
The steak itself was disappointing: the meat was tough, the vegetables tasteless (a piece of tomato, onion, some hard potatoes, and poorly cooked eggplant), and the cheese sauce was barely a spoonful served in a small dish. Overall, the food quality was very poor for 90dt the plate. Considering the restaurant’s prime location and the extremely high prices, I expected much, much better. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, and I do not recommend this...
Read moreA real disappointment. We expected more than that in terms of quality and service. We ordered several dishes but we weren’t impressed at all. I think the chef should rethink some recipes, especially the tagliatelle with pesto , sun-dried tomatoes and shrimps. The plate is simply tagliatelle with no spices and butter, no pesto or sun-dried tomatoes. Unfortunately we ordered two plates. Completely tasteless. We mentioned the problem to the waiter and the responsable but they didn’t seem to believe us even if the absence of pesto was so obvious. The plate of pasta was simply white (it should be green if it was with real pesto) !The other dishes were average too without any personality. Chef: please try not to innovate too much if you don’t have the right ingredients. Even the bread was hard. At the end, the responsable offered us free sorbet. Thanks, but two of us did not eat at all their main dishes! The service was very average too. We had a waiter always near us, kind of supervising us. He filled our glasses of water each time we took a sip. It’s not bad but it made us uncomfortable and we had to stop our discussion each time he came. Also, too many waiters for nothing. We used to love this place with the nice view but unfortunately we were annoyed with many things that made our experience awful. I’m not sure if I will be back. We went to too many upscale restaurants ( Le Golfe, Dar el Jeld, etc.) and never felt scammed. With Dar Zarrouk, unfortunately we were. Lastly, I confirmed all previous and negative feedbacks. Seriously, something...
Read moreThe view of the restaurant is nice, however, it was vibing as a high end place, but the service did not match the standard at all.
-bread was served cold, no butter was provided -1 of us requested to have warm bread, the server Sarah answered but still did not bring -the server Sarah is not good at English, but she was not happy even when we spoke to her in Arabic, she was only more talkative when spoken to in french -we asked for recommendations of the menu and she simply answered "everything is good", not trying to be more helpful -we saw her rolling her eyes at least 3 times while serving at our table and not having good attitude at customer service -in general the servers are not attentive enough, the restaurant was at half capacity, and we had to wave few times across the hall to get someone's attention -food was average, not wow outstanding -despite highly priced, the...
