We came for something simple: some appetizers, a pizza, and pasta. I had visited about a year ago for dinner and definitely prefer the evening vibes to the afternoon ones. The facade of the area we were at needs a touch of repainting, which for an upscale restaurant, isn't pleasing to the eyes—another plus for eating at night when you don’t see these things.
Pros: We had the burrata, which in my opinion, was one of the yummiest I've had so far in Istanbul. It had an interesting eggplant puree as a base, giving it a unique flavor. The burrata itself wasn't cold out of the fridge, which is unfortunately how it’s often served at several Italian restaurants in Istanbul (yes, I have a thing for burrata).
The pizza, a Margherita, was good—nothing too exciting or mind-blowing.
Cons: The bruschetta wasn't up to par at all. While they had their own twist with cooked tomatoes instead of raw, it wasn’t a success. It almost felt like eating un-pureed pasta sauce on soggy bread. No basil flavor anywhere, unfortunately.
The pasta was very underwhelming and lacked flavor. We had a simple tomato pasta and one with clams. The latter was overcooked and chewy.
Would I come here again? Unfortunately, no.
For the price, it did not live up to...
Read moreThis is without a doubt my favourite Italian restaurant in Istanbul. Fabulous decor, great service, great wine selection, great stemware for the wine and great food. One of the first things I notice about a great restaurant is the willingness to say "yes, we can do that". This is one of those places. If it's not on the menu, just ask for it and if it is humanly possible they will create it. I have had many lunches and dinners at La Scarpetta and never have I or my fellow diners been disappointed. Everything is good on the menu. My only small issue once and I know now is to ask for risotto in bowl as opposed to a plate as on the plate it cools too quickly. This really is a lovely restaurant with a lovely dining room in an enclosed glass area that really makes it feel like you are dining al fresco but away from the elements of weather. Great spot for a romantic dinner or business meal or a group lunch or dinner - they have a nice private dining room upstairs you can book. I'll be back often as long as I am in...
Read moreA bit pricey but easily the best place to have a classic 3-course Italian meal in Istanbul. Note that portions for food items tend to be somewhat small but obviously the authentic dining experience is to order 1 antipasti item, 1 pasta dish, and 1 main course. The 3 together will fill you up and the taste is unmatched!
Handmade pasta Dishes, fresh meat and vegetables, great selection of wine and they make amazing cocktails! I'd recommend the Gingerella, an Italian twist on a Moscow Mule. Perfect after a hot summer day!
They were able to easily accommodate and service my party of 28 but it's also just a fantastic...
