Sushi&Spice Akaretler — Restaurant in Beşiktaş

The initial experience at the restaurant was fine, the menu had a lot to offer from a variety of Asian cuisines. My fiancee and I ordered the pad Thai and the red curry. The pad Thai was good, it had some traditional flavors that are common and it came out hot and fresh. When the red curry came out we were surprised to see it brown and the texture looked like a soup with pieces of beef and vegetables in it. It looked like heated beef gravy with pieces of vegetables thrown in. The curry also had no flavors resembling red curry paste or coconut milk, the staple ingredients for curry. It tasted like spiced gravy, and the meat also had no flavor.

Unhappy with the taste, my fiancee took a few bites and did not continue the plate. After finishing my plate we called over a server to explain to him that the red curry did not resemble any of the traditional tastes or flavors of the dish. He told us he would tell the chef and return to us. After waiting for about 10 minutes we called him over again to ask about the response. The chef said, "that's their recipe for red curry" and that they won't change it.

Wonderful selection of colorful and fancy dish presentation. Slightly salted edamame was flavorful and timely cooked. The Ramen broth had something missing, maybe mirin but it was a good one in overall quality for a Ramen restaurant. I picked the one with meat. The meat was quite tender. The ingredients in the Ramen were well balanced and quite close to umami taste. The veggies were fresh and cooked timely. It met my expectations.

The place was packed even for a weekday. I waited 15 minutes to be seated. It has a nice interior but the tables are pretty close to each other. It has outdoor seating option for smokers. I don’t know if they take reservations over the phone.

Service pace was fast and paying attention to the customer was quite good.

I’m rarely this rude, I understand how difficult restaurants can be. But take my review for what it’s worth, one of the worst food I had in my life. I ordered the green curry and it reminded me of the baby food from Gerber my mother fed me when I was a baby. Honestly, even Gerber must be better. What didn’t help was the pathetic service staff, sorry but they didn’t care to take, bring nor ask how we felt. Just very rude with a narcissistic attitude of eat if you want, don’t if you don’t want. What’s worst they have the audacity to charge 20% by default for this service. Needless to say, I’m never coming back. If there’s anything positive to take away from this meal, it reminded me of life as a baby. If you like...
