We stumbled upon Imkonezya Far East Indonesian Cuisine quite by chance when my wife was suddenly craving something familiar—Malaysian food—during our stay in Taksim, Istanbul. After searching Google, we realised there were no Malaysian restaurants nearby, but to our delight, we found this Indonesian spot located just 500 meters from our hotel. It was a pleasant and easy walk for lunch on Monday, 30 June 2025, which made the whole experience even more convenient.
Finding the restaurant itself was not particularly challenging since it sits along a busy, easily accessible road in the heart of Taksim. However, the signboard might be a little confusing for first-timers, as it also carries the name “Uzak Dogu Matfagi” (which means “Far East Kitchen” in Turkish). What helped reassure us was noticing that most of the patrons inside were Asians—always a promising sign when you’re in search of authentic Southeast Asian cuisine.
As soon as we entered, we were welcomed by an Indonesian-speaking waiter, who promptly handed us the menu and was ready to offer recommendations. The interaction was smooth and friendly, making us feel comfortable right away. For our meal, we decided on the Ayam Bakar set (TRY230) and the Nasi Campur set (TRY280), and to accompany the food, we ordered a Coca Cola and a glass of iced tea.
Both dishes exceeded our expectations in terms of authenticity. The flavours were spot-on, almost identical to what we’ve experienced in Indonesia, and the presence of freshly steamed white rice was a definite plus—it really satisfied our craving for home-style Asian rice meals. The portion sizes were generous, ensuring we left the restaurant full and satisfied.
Considering that Taksim is one of Istanbul’s more upscale and touristy areas, we found the prices to be reasonable and fair. The cost was in line with what you’d expect for this central location and certainly justified by the portion size and quality of food served. Service-wise, we were pleased; the staff were attentive, relatively prompt, and genuinely helpful, especially when answering questions about the menu.
If there is one thing that could be improved, it would be the restaurant’s cleanliness and overall tidiness. The setting is very straightforward and casual, with plastic seating and a minimalist “no-frills” decor. While this creates a relaxed, unpretentious environment, some guests might find the basic décor and indoor smoking policy less appealing, especially if they prefer a more polished or smoke-free dining space.
Overall, Imkonezya offers a reliable option for those seeking authentic Indonesian food in Istanbul. It delivers decent value, satisfying portions, and genuine flavours in a casual, festive atmosphere. It’s not a place for fancy dining, but it’s great for a quick, hearty, and enjoyable meal if you’re in the area and missing the flavours of home. I would recommend it for anyone in Istanbul looking for Southeast Asian...
Read moreI've been here a few times, and this might just be one of my favorite Indonesian restaurants in Istanbul🤍
I'm a huge fan of Ayam Geprek and pempek. Their Ayam Geprek is top-notch, crispy, and oh so tasty. And don't even get me started on the sambal, it's tongue-tingling good😍
The Ayam Bakar is pretty tasty too, although sometimes you have to wait a bit.
As for the Pempek, it's kinda mediocre. The cuko sauce is delicious and authentic, but they need to step up their pempek game. It could use some improvement.
Prices are fair, and you get a hearty portion of authentic Indonesian cuisine for your money.
One suggestion I'd give is about the service. It'd be better if they focused on providing more refined and proper service. The staff here are friendly and all, but they could use a bit of polishing to make guests feel more comfortable. Also, I've noticed some of the staff smoking, not just in the guest area but also in the kitchen! That's kinda off-putting and definitely something they should work on for better service in the future.
Keep up the good work, and I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Taksim. Cheers to...

Of all the Indonesian places in and around Taksim and Galataport, this one is most tourist friendly, polite, presents the food well, is clean, does not "overdo deco just to end up charging a lot" and is most accessible from the main road.
Downside is that it is priced slightly higher than the wallet friendly options imemdiately around it. But still within the general price range of Indonesian restaurants in and around Taksim. So i like it as it doesn't alienate the repeat customer, altogether.
Tried the ayam bakar. Nicely seasoned, marinated and cooked fully to "fall off the bone" point. Perfectly made chicken. The red Sambal on the side has the right amount of heat decibels and is not overwhelming or the opposite. Just nice.
Es teh as a drink always complements a dish with sambal.
Overall most comfortable of the Indonesian restaurants in and...
