Mazaj Cafe in Fatih: Mixed Experience
Mazaj Cafe in Fatih is a spacious and beautifully decorated cafe with a welcoming atmosphere. The cafe allows shisha, so be aware that there might be some smoke lingering, especially if ventilation isn't optimal. The service was excellent. The waiters were friendly, attentive, and spoke multiple languages (Arabic, English, and Turkish).
They were also upfront about potential delays in food preparation. However, despite the warning, some dishes still took longer than expected. One downside was the limited menu availability after 6 PM. Additionally, the portion sizes were smaller than anticipated for the price. While the food wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped, the cafe might be a better option for enjoying shisha and drinks. Overall, my experience at Mazaj Cafe was mixed.
The ambiance and service were commendable, but the food and portion sizes didn't quite meet my expectations. It's still worth considering for a visit, especially if you're looking for a place to relax with friends and enjoy shisha but not more. Important Note: The cafe has a 10% service charge, which is clearly indicated on the menu so Take that into consideration as well! I hope this...
Read moreDuring my visit, my brother and I noticed the spot and decided to try it out. We were greeted upon entering, and everything seemed fine, but our waiter seemed to be playing games. He mentioned that our menu options were limited due to Ramadan, which we accepted. However, he kept pushing one entree on us, and we repeatedly declined. We eventually agreed, and he took our orders within exactly (10 seconds.) I walked up and approached him and asked to cancel the Roasted Lamp Neck order and give us the Shakriya entree instead. He told me he wasn't sure if he could change the order, as the food could be ready. I found it hard to believe that the order was ready just 10 seconds after he left our table, and that he couldn't cancel it on the computer. My brother and I got up and left, as we didn't have time for these games. What a coincidence when we were walking right out, he said, 'Guys, I can cancel the entree.' At that time, we decided to leave. The food looks good, but the service doesn't seem to want repeated customers, just a one-time thing. PS If you are a tourist, do...
Read more5 stars simply because last night we arrived in Istanbul, exhausted with a small baby right at the iftar time and while the restaurant was very busy they still gave us a seat (a beautiful table right next to the water fountain) treating us with such welcome and warmth. That itself is an excellent gesture of good management and treating every customer (even the tired looking travelers) with such high value. The restaurant is beautiful, very authentic with a splendid ambiance that lets one experience the richness of the Syrian culture and hospitality. The iftar was absolutely delicious, both in taste and beautiful presentation one can only expect from Syrian cuisine. Everything else was excellent quality: shisha, fruit platters, dessert, drinks. A wonderful way to start our Ramadan trip in Istanbul and cannot...
