Motif Restaurant and Eyna Hotel — Restaurant in Fethiye

When I've read fiction about Turkish history I've always had a romantic, Moorish-coloured view of everything about this amazing country, including the food that the Ottomans ate. We've been coming to Calis for 10 years now and I've always enjoyed the food in the cafes and restaurants in the resort. However, this year Calis now has the very great pleasure of a new restaurant along the front at Calis....MOTIF. I understand the new owners of this restaurant prevoiusly owned Mosaic in Fethiye, which we have enjoyed very much in our previous visits there. But....they have totally surpassed themselves with every element of Motif! The staff and level of service is impeccable...friendly and personal without being crass, cheesy, or over familiar. The menu is interesting, authentic and well described with a rich variety of tempting dishes. We choose walnut and pomegranate salad, red pepper salad and prawn casserole to begin with. This was accompanied by warm pitta bread. Totally delicious. The salads were fragrant with the skillful use of freshly grown and picked herbs and beautifully presented. The prawn casserole was awash with the sweet flavour of roasted garlic and sweet peppers with just the right amount of 'al dente'! Main courses were Sour Cherry Kebap for me and Sarmi Beyti for hubby. Accompanied with Aubergine Smoked Yogurt and Turkish Rice (with chestnuts and tiny currants) and more fresh warm bread....well we felt like we had died and gone to heaven. I ended my meal (which totally fitted with my romantic view of middle eastern cuisine), with a homemade-infused cardamom and ginger gin....the ginger was fresh and crisp as I nibbled on it from the glass once I'd taken the final sip of my gin. Will we go again? ...This is our fourth visit and I'm planning to frequent this place...well very frequently! A must for anyone coming to Calis. MOTIF is a game changer and I hope the other eating places in Calis are going to up their game! They are definitely...

Unfortunately, had a terrible meal here. Perhaps we caught the restaurant on a bad night. It had only just opened and we went there for our anniversary. One of the most disappointing experiences weve had eating out in Turkey. Both my wife and my starters were re-cooked, obviously having prepared much earlier in the day, even the garnish was dried up. My wifes main course of Casseroled lamb chops was OK but very small portion, but my main coarse of Kofte with a cherry sauce and croutons was terrible. Kofte was the size of small marbles and the croutons outnumbered the kofte by about 5 to 1. After the main coarse I called the owner over and told her we were very disappointed. To be fair she offered us a refund on both starters and my main coarse. which we refused as we had eaten the meal. I would have rather she tried to put it right by inviting us back to the restaurant for another meal. In fact we didnt try the desserts and went elswhere to complete our meal. Unfortunately the retaurant professes to offer a Turkish experience. Having lived here for quite a few years, there are many better Turkish restaurants in the area, and better value. Having read other reviews, most seem to be positive, but sorry we won`t be visiting again, there are many better genuine Turkish restaurants in the area...

We had walked past the Motif a few times looking for places to eat and one thing that had caught my eye was the photos of the food and how colourful it was, so tonight we decided to give it a try and we weren't disappointed, we received a friendly welcome as we approached and was asked if we would like a table, the lady owner (an English lady who has lived here for 16 years) was very polite and helpful and pointed out finer point of the dishes we had ordered. When we go out we generally decide whether we have a starter or a dessert and today was dessert. Our mains arrived and looked as good as the photos in the menu and on the board, within 5 or 6 mouthfuls my wife stated that it was the best meal so far and my son and I agreed. Dessert was equally as delicious and at the end of the meal we had apple and Turkish tea on the house, we will be visiting again before we return home. Customer service was excellent from start to finish a well...
