Edit: saw the exact same £20 leg of lamb we ate as a ready meal in a supermarket for less than £5!
Nice setting, poor service, average food, high prices.
I’m not sure if this restaurant just had a bad night, but for the money I was not impressed personally. The waiter strongly recommended we all try their slow cooked lamb shank, to give credit where it is due it was certainly slow cooked as it melted off the bone but it tasted like they had forgotten to season it.
Certainly not worth the 569 TL (£19!!) as it tasted quite bland. It was a beautiful big piece of meat and the meal looked great, but it all looks the same once you’re finished. The taste is so much more important.
I could overlook the lamb being bland if not for the rice, it was undercooked for everyone at the table. The rice I have had whilst in Kalkan has been different to elsewhere, but crunchy rice is undercooked rice. It definitely wasn’t anything in the rice, it was the rice itself that was crunchy.
It was incredibly off-putting and makes me wonder how such a busy restaurant with considerably high reviews can manage to not cook something so simple. I cannot believe professional chefs would be capable of undercooking rice so they must have amateur chefs in the kitchen.
To top it off the service was not great as they promised us a free bottle of wine and conveniently forgot to strike it off the bill. We also felt a little rushed the whole time, and certain aspects of the service were a bit strange - they didn’t give us a food menu until after we ordered drinks, felt like a tactic to encourage us to stay. There were also other little issues like drinks forgotten, and just generally slow service overall.
The only good thing about the service was the gentleman with the English accent, he seemed very friendly and welcoming and tried his best to make sure we were all comfortable, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for everyone else.
This restaurant looked good, but the service was poor and the food was okay at best, considering how much we paid for the meal we were not impressed as we have had better meals for less money elsewhere. I would recommend avoiding this particular place based on...
Read moreThe service was exceptional. They couldn't have done more. Murat was an amazing host. He befriended our 6 year old and gave him a free dessert. Our son hasn't stopped talking about him.
The view of the harbour was very peaceful. We could watch the boats come in and dock. They moved a table outside so we could sit in the view and sun.
The food was so delicious. We tried the seafood platter and was all so flavoursome. The octopus was our sons favourite bit.
The cheesy truffle risotto we ordered for my son was really tasty too.
I ordered a coconut cocktail which was like holiday in a glass.
Service from Hura was also exceptional. Apologies if we have spelt any of the names wrong!
We were invited to meet the owners daughter who was very friendly.
The atmosphere in the bar was very hip and a cool vibe on the harbour side.
There was a choice of indoor seating, outdoor near the harbour and another tiered one where you could watch...
Read moreWe’ve been to Kalkan twice now and each time we’ve been we’ve spent most of our mornings enjoying breakfast here. An incredibly relaxed atmosphere, extremely attentive table service and a fantastic view of the harbour. They go the extra mile to keep the kids entertained as well.
Honestly could not recommend a better place to start the day.
Thank you again to the team at Gustos for starting our days in a relaxed, chilled manner!...
