Okay. There's a bit of a story behind this review so try to bear with me. I'm a new resident of Uganda, fresh in from the United States. I've been looking for good pizza. I went to a couple of spots and I was disappointed. I'm sure I reviewed the places so you can see the reviews if you like. Anyway, a Muslim brother of mine who has lived here awhile told me about CJ's. So the first time I went to CJ's I just looked at the menu and didn't buy anything. The second time I went to CJ's I did the same but wanted to price the pizza. I checked with my brother about the pizza and got a green light. So today, with a skeptical heart, I went to CJ's for the third time and bought a medium sized margherita pizza. And wouldn't you know, IT WAS FIRE 🔥🔥🔥.
First of all, CJ's has its stuff together. Well dressed staff, everything matches, and I got good service even the first two times that I didn't buy anything. That's says all you need to know about the service. It's impeccable.
The atmosphere gets a five for a few reasons. 1. Peace and quiet - no music was playing in the place. For me that's a plus. 2. Nice decor - toned down neutral colors, light olive and beige. Wall art pretty cool and not overdone with a nod to times gone by with antique typewriters and telephones displayed. Pretty cool. 3. The patrons - the restaurant seems to draw an upscale crowd but I was dressed down and still treated well. I saw a variety of presentations in dress from business to religious and the in-between casual looks. Everyone seemed to be treated equally well.
But what matters is that food. When you get it, it has to be done right. It has to be good; otherwise, the rest doesn't matter. This pizza is good, alhamdullilllah. First thing, I opened the box and said to myself, 'at least it looks like a pizza'. I walked it around the corner to my wife's shop and dug in. Delicious. Thick buttery crust. Real cheese, mozzarella I must presume, good sauce on the pizza (which is saying something since the other pizzas I tried here had little to no sauce on the pizza). Herbs sprinkled over and baked into the cheese. Cheese stretchy when biting into the pizza. I was like wow.
So that's my review. If you are in City Centre near Kampala Rd and you want pizza that looks and tastes like pizza is supposed to taste, you better skip the rest and hit CJ's. Really.
PS - It's not the cheapest but the price...

Read moreCafé Javas is always a reliable choice for great food, and the Boulevard House branch upholds that reputation. The menu is as impressive as ever, offering a variety of delicious dishes that never disappoint. The customer care is top-notch, with staff who are attentive, polite, and quick to assist. The seating arrangement is also well-thought-out, offering a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for diners.
However, the state of the toilets at this branch is a significant letdown. The facilities are poorly maintained, with broken sinks, dirty floors, and subpar flushing systems. For a brand like Café Javas, which is known for high standards, this was surprising and disappointing. Clean and functional restrooms are a basic expectation, and it’s something I hope management will address urgently.
Overall, it’s a great spot for dining, but the restroom hygiene needs immediate attention to maintain the overall experience Café Javas...
