Maté Abu Dhabi — Restaurant in Abu Dhabi

One word- Delumptious (Delicious/Scrumptious) couldn’t pick a word that does justice. From the moment we entered the hotel, we were welcomed with friendly, professional smiles. The willingness to help and assist and guide was exceptional. As we entered Maté, we were taken through to our seats where it had been arranged for us to have a view of the grill. The restaurant has a serene ambience and although with an open kitchen concept with the grill in the middle it’s utterly perfect. We were immediately welcomed by Calvin, to the table and he took the time to explain to us the history and concept behind the cuisine at Maté. The menu was easily available via QR Code and was a hard copy. The appetisers came in a very timely manner - Vieiras- Scallops were cooked to perfection. Like perfect seafood marshmallows. Seared to a perfect golden brown. 10/10 Manakish - was light and was perfectly balanced with the cheese and the tomato. A great appetiser with a unique twist. 10/0 Palta a la parrilla- was perfection. Perfectly zesty and melted in my mouth. A solid 10/10 Alcaucil a la parrilla- was beautifully presented and tasted delightful. I could have eaten at least 12 of them! Another solid 10/10 Onto the mains Mero - presented so beautifully it was almost too beautiful to eat! The fennel salad was light and refreshing. 10/10 Costillas de cordeo - cooked to perfection. The sweet potato accompaniment was just phenomenal. There was definitely nothing left on the plate 10/10 Hamburguesa de Wagyu - Extremely Flavourful with a particular focus on the truffle sauce which was a delight that we request for more on the side to go with the sweet potato fries! We’re upping the game here 12/10! Lomo- This can be renamed as the Million- Dollar Tenderloin! It came out perfectly cooked medium- well and was super with buttery beautiful mashed potato ! 10/10 Ojo-de-bife - A stunning dish. Accompanied with chimichurri sauce was just absolutely fantastic. Another solid 12/10!

At this point we’re wondering if we have the space for some dessert, and then we remembered , some people consider they have a separate stomach for dessert!

Flan- This was utterly FLANTASTIC! I will be back for the Flan. It was absolutely beautiful. It was wonderful to hear from Anna, how it reminded her of the way her grandmother in Ukraine would make flan. Such a beautiful dish. This is a definite 12/10! Torta Balcarce- Well this was mind blowing. The entire dish was an absolute delight to eat. Every single bite was just perfection. 12/10! Tarta de queso- Stunning. Just stunning. This dessert was definitely portioned to be shared between 2 people however I have no shame in saying that I did not share this dish! This was well deserving of a 15/10!!

To say the least, the service provided by Maté staff is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. Here we go again- 15/10!!

The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in a very very long time and we will definitely be back.

I feel incredibly honoured to have experienced the beauty of what has been created based on the history and culture of what Matè represents.

Zero stars for the russ lady Olga in front of the Maté restaurant! She successfully discouraged and prevented us (me and my husband) from entering this place.

The Russ woman Olga - we all agreed on a table for us at the lounge. After that she switched and started to speak to us in russian! After me informing her we are not from where she thinks we are she became rude. She should not come up with the idea to tell us that one can not wear flip flops or short trousers while this is a big fat LIE🤡 and she knew it. Bravo!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is her true behavior I suppose, to speak to white people in russian and later lie to them if they are not russian in order to not let them in and spend money. Luckily not everybody in Abu Dhabi or Dubai is from Russia 😄 This type of staff should be let go, just be gone. There’s no excuse, it’s unacceptable. She spoils all the good mood in the hotel!

We just wanted to spend some nice time and money on good drinks and meals. We just wanted to have fun and she spoilt it horrendously. Summing up, it is very sticky, unfriendly, unhealthy and very unpleasant situation for us that needed to be fixed.

The manager of the Maté restaurant is an absolute darling!🤩 he reacted immediately, offered us a generous recompense which we probably will not accept because we simply don’t want to come back. He also apologized and promised she will be punished. I’m counting on it! This kind of stories shouldn’t take place in Hayatt hotels or any others!👹 We travel from Dubai (where we live) to Abu Dhabi very often and nothing like that happed to us...

Phenomenal experience, dining at Maté felt like spending an evening out somewhere in the heart of Buenos Aires. We loved everything about it: from design of the dining room and its intimate, yet outspoken decor, the notes of Latin American music filling the room and creating such unique ambiance, to seamless service and absolutely out of this world food whereas the menu surprised us with the traditional dishes having an interesting Lebanese twist. The staff all made us feel like we have come to their home as they were sharing the story behind every dish so carefully handcrafted by the chefs and looking after us with so much of care and friendliness. And everything we tried from the menue was absolutely delicious, the corn mash, the grilled avocado, the empanadas! Not to mention the tomahawk steak was an absolute highlight of the night - the meat was so tender it melted in the mouth! But event though we were full, it would have been a shame if we didn’t get to try the “Torta Balcarce” with coconut ice cream, dulce de lèche and crushed meringue - the combination of all flavors and textures was just the epitome of culinary art.
