I decided to go to Mexican Express and order a long shawarma for a quick bite while walking to the train station. I told the lady server specifically "NO mayonnaise, NO sauces at all please 😁." And she said "okay no problem."
I heard the server tell the guy in the kitchen something about "mayonnaise" in their language so I trust everything was okay.
When I got my shawarma I started walking to the train station and eating it. First bite and I tasted mayonnaise straight away. I couldn't believe it so I looked at it and saw white sauce in my shawarma so I spat out my food and started walking back to the shop.
Here comes the best part After I got back I showed the lady server and the man at the counter (who looked like the manager at the time because he the only one that wasn't wearing a uniform) the white sauce in my shawarma and I reminded the server that I asked for "NO mayonnaise, NO sauces at all please 😁".
They said something to the person in the kitchen in their language and pointed at me. The guy in the kitchen then spoke to me directly and said "NO NO NO, No mayonnaise, that's spicy sauce" and he started waving this sauce bottle.
I'm not stupid so I didn't believe him and asked him to put some of that sauce on the shawarma I was holding. He hesitated at first but I insisted he put some. When he did, it was a red/orange colour sauce, NOT WHITE. So I told him that's not the sauce in my shawarma, but the guy in the kitchen is still insisting "NO NO NO, No mayonnaise. No mayonnaise.".
I looked at the lady server and the manager at the counter, they both just looked at me then they said something to they guy in their language but the guy just shakes his head and waves his hand off like he's changing a light bulb and said nothing else.
So I stood there waiting for a resolution, nothing was happening. Stood there for a good 5-10 seconds and no one was saying or doing anything, they were all just looking at me, including the manager, like I put the mayonnaise in my shawarma myself lol.
So after about 10.069 seconds of our FOUR WAY MEXICAN STANDOFF (excuse the pun lol), I decided to just leave the place and also leave the whole shawarma with just one bite on their counter and walked away with no other word.
They didn't try to stop me.
They didn't ask me if I wanted them to make another shawarma.
They didn't even apologise for what happened.
I felt embarrassed like I was at fault for the mayonnaise in my food lol.
Went to the restaurant next to them called City Burger instead and bought another shawarma with no sauce, this time no drama came with my shawarma lol.
I'm not allergic to mayonnaise, I just really HATE the taste of mayonnaise that's why I asked for no sauce at all. But imagine if I had an egg allergy, what could have happened?
10 Dirhams is also very cheap, but why am I complaining over 10 Dirhams ( that's less than 5NZD)?
It's the principle. The guy in the kitchen just straight up lied in front of every person confronting him about the food he made. But even after all the proof, the manager just stood there and did nothing. What kind of manager are you if you can't solve a simple problem like that. And the kitchen staff gets away...
