Probably the best thing/ activity you can do with just AED 1 or 2 in Dubai. Enjoy the beautiful breeze of the Dubai creek with a joyful ride while cherishing the dim yet bright lighting on both sides of the road. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunsets while enjoying your abra ride and taking pictures of your loved ones. For most people Dubai is all about the skyline and the tall buildings, but for me it’s the old Dubai, the streets and the calm yet always so busy waters of the creek that attracts me the most. You can sit here near the creek for hours and watch the abra’s go by. You can watch birds and fishes being fed by strangers. You can also find someone taking a little break from a hard days work sipping on a masala chai and enjoying the same views as you are. You will also find the only mandir area and shiva and Srinathji temples here alongwith the biggest puja market in the entire Middle East. The best time to visit this place is in the evenings and if it’s winter, you can just come anytime. But if you looking for some tan, the it’s always the best time for you. This place is as lively at part of the day and I wish to cover more of this so do keep...
Read moreIt is always so nice to visit the Abra boat point area in Bur Dubai and take the ferry boat across to Deira. Earlier it was the only affordable way to cross the creek, now we do it to enjoy the boat ride, but 40 years ago it was my only affordable ride from Deira to Bur Dubai for work or for meeting my friends and would cost only 25 fils per person one way which currently is Dh 1 now. The shops close to the boat point are a great attraction and sell everything from bhajias, samosas, hot tea, coffee, to lovely clothes, shoes and useful souvenirs which you can carry for friends and family or for local use at home. The boat ride was immense fun with so many boats criss crossing and occasionally a big boat would go by. We were fortunate we came at the best time to see the golden sunset across the waters. The white herons, cranes or egrets were countless and flying all around us especially looking for bits and scraps of food which many people threw in the water. A must go, a definite place to visit to enjoy the good old...
Read moreDubai creek was the only original water source that divided the city into two- Deira & Burdubai. The easiest and cheapest way to cross was using the Abra. Now also many people use it as their only source of transport. But it has also become one of the iconic tourist spots. Now also they charge only 1 dh per trip (single/ one side). These abra boats can also be hired privately ( not sure of current rates), for sailing across the creek and it's a good way to experience a boat ride and view both sides. The sunset views are amazing here. 12 years ago I had hired 2 Abra boats for my pre-wedding photo shoot! It was an amazing experience! I make it a point to take my guests and family members (tourists) on the Abra. There are shopping places on both sides which is also very nice for exploring and getting souvenirs, spices, oud, etc. Dubai Grand Souq is a nice place for open street shopping. It's a short walk to the Dubai Gold...
