I had not eaten all day. After having a massage I spent an hour walking around Aberdeen down back alleys etc. Most places were already closed I went to the Triple Kirks and it was full and a soccer match was on TV and a disco was playing and a few vacant tables were reserved. The Northern Bar had poker going on the kitchen was closed On the way back to my hotel I came across this place and after a lot of discussion a £12 burger and fries ended up being £19 with a drink. I was not offered a receipt. The decor is aping a mexican resteraunt. Benches and chairs and wooden tables I enjoyed my mango drink and the food took about 15 minutes to come. In my opinion the fries were over cooked and too thin and dry and the burger bread was soggy from the filling. The meal was served in a basket and the burger filling was a bit dry. Bits of chopped tomatoes kept coming out I had to ask for a fork. The meal was cold but I was really hungry and it was so late. The music was good mostly country and rock ballads. I find food delivery riders an unwelcome intrusion. They do burritos and quesilados etc In not sure what a mexican native would think of it. I would say that the burger was a decent size. The girl who served me was very good at her job and made me...
Read moreGreat food and speedy service, definitely worth a visit. We ordered a large burrito, rice bowl and spiced TexMex fries. My burrito was good and the ghost salsa had a nice kick to it! My wife loved her rice bowl and commented on the portion being huge (I had to finish it for her, lol). We visited on a Friday around 20:30 and it was surprisingly quiet, our food was ready in 10 minutes... we had a FreshMex Lime Lager while we waited, which was very nice.
I stopped short of 5 stars because the fries were far too salty/spiced. It was as if the lid fell off of the spice pot when someone was spicing them, they were drowning in the stuff! They were Ok for me (I like salty food) but my wife couldn't eat them. They were also a bit on the cool side, I would've preferred they had been hotter and fresher. Also, I got the beef and chorizo chilli burrito and while it was nice, it lacked any sort of punchy flavour, I didn't notice or taste any chorizo either.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and the service was friendly and efficient. Was it the best burrito/mexican food I ever tasted? No. But it was decent...
Read moreAs a Vegan, each trip to Aberdeen gets better and better as the year goes on.
FreshMex offer a variety of Mexican style dishes for eat in and takeaway, and everything (and yes I mean everything vegan) was top notch. Delivery is also an option.
The food is prepared in front of you, which is always a good sign, and the ingredients are as Fresh as the title would suggest.
The selection of toppings and fillings is great and the menu is really easy to get around as a vegan; with no questions or akward requests needing to be made.
It’s clearly fast food but not a seriously unhealthy choice, and the flavours of all the dishes were spot on.
The dine in experience is superb and really matches the friendly vibe and welcoming staff.
As you know from my other reviews, I’ve been around and I don’t hold back when standards slip, so I’m pleased to recommend FreshMex as a 5 star Lunch/Dinner...
