Huge dining place with off street parking. Lots of tables that goes all the way to the back. The food was a little disappointing. The portion of fish was small and the peas was yellow and so little. I used a Groupon voucher and the lady server was not too happy about it when I presented the voucher before ordering. She demanded the voucher to be printed out but it was not stated in the voucher and it was not possible to print out the vouchers too. I told her usually the other stores just take down the security codes from the voucher and she was not happy about it at all. She gave me a piece of paper to write down the codes eventually. When I asked what was the sides that comes with this voucher as it states fish with 2 sides for 2 people and she snapped saying it’s just standard, fries and peas. Not at all pleasant like I was begging for a free meal. The guy server came around later to take the orders and he was nice. We could choose beans or bake potatoes too. So it really depends who was...
Read moreWe went earlier on tonight. Was there two days ago and thought we would go again. We were having a break in Aberdeen. We ordered our meals one was chicken and chips the other was fish and chips. When they arrived I looked at the plate and they were full of not chips but burnt crispy hard bits. In my plate I had about six proper chips which weren’t even that warm. The garden peas were cold as if they had just come out the tin. The fish was done in bread crumbs which I asked for but it was burnt so much that it hurt my teeth. So all I really had was six chips and some of the inside of the fish. My husbands chips were the same and peas too. I felt that I couldn’t say as even though the restaurant was not busy they put another couple in the seats next to us which was not even three feet away. Think the waitress knew we weren’t happy probably when she looked what was left on the plates. I did say when we paid. Very...
Read moreHmmm, fish and chips (almost) perfection.
A bit of a legend in Aberdeen, best known for it's famous fish and chips. Really, when something is marketed that hard there's really no excuse to order anything else other than their speciality.
So is the fish and chips the stuff of legend? Kind of. I mean, it's not bad (and certainly a cut above a normal chipper) but on the other hand it's not truly memorable either. I think the best way of describing it is 'reliably above average' as we have seen consistent high quality food in all the times we have visited.
Helpings are generous. The fish and chips comes with a choice of peas (mushy or normal) or baked beans. On the table there's as much sauces and condiments as you could ever want. Oh and kids under 5 eat for free.
Service is usually very fast although admittedly we tend to avoid super busy times. Given its legendary local status booking is...
