The Craftsman â A Scottish Breakfast with Soul
In the heart of town, The Craftsman captures the spirit of Scottish hospitality with a breakfast offering thatâs as bold and hearty as the Highlands themselves. Exposed brick walls, soft lighting, and charming floral china create an atmosphere thatâs both refined and down-to-earth â the kind of place where time slows down just enough to savor every bite.
The Scottish breakfast served here is a triumph of tradition and care. Perfectly poached eggs sit proudly atop a plate rich with local character. Thick back bacon, grilled to perfection, lends a smoky, savory punch. The sausages â juicy and seasoned with a subtle spice â are joined by a slice of black pudding thatâs wonderfully crisp on the outside, rich and earthy within. Baked beans and buttery mushrooms add warmth and depth, while a roasted tomato offers a sweet, tangy lift. The toast, golden and robust, is ready to soak up every last bit â served with a generous pat of butter on the side.
What elevates The Craftsman beyond its menu, though, is its people. The staff radiate genuine warmth and friendliness, treating each guest like a familiar friend. Service is attentive, unrushed, and always with a smile â the kind of welcome that turns a good meal into a great memory.
This is not just breakfast â itâs a celebration of Scottish flavors, tradition, and heartfelt service. The Craftsman is a place to linger, to return to, and to recommend...
Read moreMe and my partner used to come here a lot as it was our favourite place to get Breakfast/Lunch but it feels as though the place has taken a turn for the worse.
I believe they have a new chef and are potentially under new management. The last 3 visits the service has been sub par, everyone is entitled to off days of course but itâs now just a bit of a theme. They used to be quite bubbly but now everything seems a bit of a chore. It took us 20 minutes to get our order taken last time and we actually had to get up and grab someone ourselves, when we told her we had been waiting a while and just wanted to order she looked a bit miffed that we had bothered her.
The food isnât the same as it was before, usually I would order a Big Monty Breakfast but the last time I had one the bacon and sausage looked anaemic and on the verge of being just cooked. It was always done perfectly before so it was a bit off putting. My partners father asked for his bacon and sausage to be cooked a little bit more, this seemed to be a hassle too.
Itâs unfortunate for the staff if they arenât being managed well or are suffering with new owners but with the way it is we wonât be going back, particularly when you are a regular customer but itâs seemingly a massive inconvenience for a soggy breakfast to be cooked a bit more or to just have your...
Read moreOrdered a sandwich which İ though wouldn't take that long to prepare as i only had around 50 minutes free to eat. After 25 minutes I quickly checked on my food as I could see that other tables which had arrived after me were starting to get their food. The waitress assured me that it wouldn't be long, but I'm not sure if she actually checked the kitchen to see if it was being prepared. After another 10 minutes, i queried about my food again. The waitress actually checked to see if the food was being made this time but İ am presuming that she found that the kitchen didn't have the order even though it was on the system. Unfortunately İ ended up having to leave before İ received the food as İ was running out of time. The staff did offer the sandwich for free or a refund which İ agreed upon and they were relatively apologetic about the situation. However, clearly more training needs to be done to ensure that mistakes such as these do not happen again, also when İ was waiting for my food i spotted other issues with the service which could easily be fixed. On a more more positive note, my coffee and mocktail were really nice and İ would go back for...
