We are regulars to the crown and anchor so was expecting good things for Mother’s Day unfortunately it couldn’t have been any worse. Clearly busy, which was expected we waited for our table to be ready, a 5.30pm booking. Lots of things unavailable on the menu, again we expected this with a later booking. The colleagues working were something else, we was seated no ‘hello’ ‘how are you’ no pleasantries, was asked for our drink order eventually, no ‘thank you’ just the colleague walking off after taking the order. The drinks arrived quick but had to ask for the ‘free Prosecco for mums’ that was offer - which arrived warm and half a glass - no issue, free after all. No sides left so ordered 5 chicken roast and 1 lamb, They arrived after a long wait - meat, gravy and burnt freezing Yorkshire on the plate, no veg and no cutley, we waited 10 minutes for some cutlery (asking multiple times) by this time the gravy and meat were also stone cold. Lamb tough and over cooked. When the veg arrived we told them about the burnt greasy Yorkshires, their answer was they knew they were burnt and cold but could put them in the microwave? During the time waiting it was obvious other meals had been sent back to the kitchen as we heard the floor colleagues and the kitchen colleagues arguing and moaning about customers in front of guests and then the bar staff eating the food that had been sent back infront of people. We asked to speak to the supervisor who was actually the rude person who seated us, he told us he knew everything was unacceptable but it wasn’t his fault he had had a bad day and he told his boss not to take so many bookings at the beginning of the week. He also said he didn’t have time to speak to us and walked off. When asked to speak to the manager he said no she was busy that she had worked extra hours today. After this conversation he then went over to his colleague who were all taking the mick out of our complaint, loudly for everyone to hear, I think this was by far the most unprofessional service I have ever experienced in any type of setting. I work in a high pressure retail environment myself and on my key trading times im there until the end to ensure a smooth operation and customer satisfaction and I certainly would not think it was exceptable for my staff to be taking the mick out of a customers complaint especially on the floor in front of people. We addressed this with the supervisor as we was leaving to which his reply was they had all had a long day. It was truly a disaster from start to finish. The crown and Anchor have lost some loyal customers from tonight. We ended up not paying for the meal as it was only the kids who actually ate some of the food.

Well located, established pub with large sunny terrace at rear with seating for 100+, superb views alongside river at ground level. (Only 5 people using when I was there Thursday in May 12.45 pm on a blue sky sunny day) Problem for me was majority of seating was closed bench type (need to lift leg over to get in) they also had seen better days - looking very old and worn. There was some newer editions with movable bench seating along with some covered booths on perimeter But I prefer a bit more comfort at my late age. Not wheelchair friendly from Main Street entrance but you could go down side of building to get to outside terrace - but then should you need the toilet which is inside there are more steps ( just the nature of the old building) nice clean gents -liquid soap warm air dryer all working well. Friendly staff cool beer varied menu but too pricey on my budget. Does not suit my needs but inside better furniture equipped.

Happened to be passing by and took a sneaky look to see if you could see the view and found a wonderful river view garden terrace, which is also dog friendly. Great glass back to the pub which you wouldn’t realise from the front. Lots of tables or roofed huts to sit outside with views over the river, also surprisingly quiet of road noise. Dan, the new owner, happened to be outside and very kindly offered to make us a drink even though he wasn’t actually open yet. Food currently starts at midday but will also be a lovely place to also go for breakfast which they may be introducing, which isn’t available anywhere else with a view. There is a car park across the bridge which is a nice walk over the bridge and to the pub. Thoroughly recommend and will be back.

Lovely walk along the seafront in the sunshine to shoreham followed by a Sunday roast. What a perfect way to spend a precious day off. Well it may have been perfect had we chosen a different place for lunch. We sat down and ordered drinks, started chatting only to realise that we were sitting right in front of what turned out to be a performance area for an afternoon entertainer - PA system literally 12 inches from my head. Now I have seen this entertainer before (Black horse - Rottingdean) and he is - er... entertaining, but, and here's the thing, when booking a table, for 8 people for lunch, would it not have been advisable to warn the group that there was going to be loud entertainment and that entertainment would be pretty much on your table. Anyway we decided to get the conversation in quick as the loud music kicked in and we ordered our food - mostly roasts and a couple of 'Mountain' burgers. The waiter was confused at the request for mountain burgers as he was unaware that they were even on the menu. He turned out to be the owner! An owner that doesn't even know what the kitchen is serving - that's a new one on me. Anyway we sat there for an hour awaiting our food, trying to enjoy the entertainment and convince the mother-in-law to remove the makeshift paper napkin earplugs she had cleverly constructed. After an hour the waiter/owner came over and said "Sorry no roasts left...nothing I can do about it. Choose something else." An hour - a bloody hour we sat there waiting for our food - to be told that. What a farce! He obviously then sent one of the waitresses over to tell us that we could have any food for free, but by that stage the damage had been done and we decided to leave. A real shame. It's a lovely place - right on the river with a great beer garden, but for goodness sake - sort it out. The owner said he's had the place for a couple of years. I just hope that someone who has a clue about customer service, and knows how to manage a kitchen takes it over soon because I shan't be returning as long as the present owner is cluelessly...

Nice venue, great location, friendly happy to help chatty staff, shockingly rude manager for point blank refusing to authorize recooking a £9.95 tortilla platter due to staff not being able to find us in the terrace garden out the back. Sadly a communication error that could have been resolved politely ended up the manager holding me accountable for why we never got our tasty tortilla sharing dish in front of his staff which I found quite completely unprofessional. To paint the bigger picture as I’m not the rantey sort, no table number was given to a member of staff when ordering as we happened to be one of the very few customers sitting outside due to averagely poor weather conditions. 30 minutes passed without any staff stepping outside with our dish causing me to go inside and enquire about our food. On enquiring, a member of staff managed to reunited us with our dish apologizing as they couldn’t find us in the building and therefore couldn’t serve it. An agreement was made to organise a new one as the present reclaimed grub was dried up following 20 mins under under the serving lamp and therefore un-edible. This was the moment when the manager stepped in and without acknowledging the back story, cancelled the recook and blamed me for not being locatable. At this point, due to the manager being so in-polite and unreasonable, he left me with no alternative but to demand a refund. My other google reviews demonstrate that Im grateful for good service and customer experience, sadly I left rather shocked by his handling of this relatively simple...
