Disappointing. Attended for a 60th birthday, so as you can imagine, it was a very special occasion and you'd like a nice meal. Well, we had a meal. Nothing special about it. My starter was undercooked...not the end of the world as it was only mozzarella. The plates were removed from the table the second the final bite of food was in my mouth. I was literally still chewing and holding my cutlery...so couldn't protest the fact we were being rushed through our food.
We ordered a second bottle of wine between the table....we asked for the same as the first as it was really nice. We were brought a different wine. When we asked for the same one, the waitress went to check. Another member of staff came over and advised they'd changed suppliers and we'd had the last bottle from the old supplier. Not a problem at all, just nice to have been made aware. First bottle was the nicer of the two.
3 steaks and chicken were ordered as a main. One of the steaks was barely warm. The other was advertised as being with king prawns in garlic butter. Sadly the menu should have said 'prawns in congealed butter' as that would have been the more accurate description. The 'king' part should definitely be withdrawn as they were smaller than a 50p piece. Nothing regal about them at all. One third of the plate was inexplicably covered in a sad looking pile of iceberg lettuce. (Perhaps this was to distract from the lack of actual food on the plate?) All steaks served with a choice of potatoes and vegtables says the menu...our waitress asked what potatoes we'd like, so chips were ordered. Unbeknownst to us, this selection then negated the vegetable option, leaving you to tuck into your cold steak and 10 chips. For £20.
When questioned with the staff....we were apologised to, however, we were told that "we don't tell the customers the changes to their order as we dont want to bore them with the details". I would highly recommend the staff start telling customers if they're not going to get the food they ordered and expected!! We were then offered vegetable (as per the menu) however, did we want to wait for them to cook whilst our mains went colder/more congealed? Not really.
So after the rushed starter and very minimal main, we were there 45 minutes in total before the food was finished. Prompt service is one thing, but as the restaurant was busy, it felt more like you were being encouraged to just eat and leave, rather than have a leisurely, enjoyable and celebratory family meal.
I can see from all other responses on reviews that "they're the number 1 italian restaurant in Shoreham". There are only 3 Italian restaurants in Shoreham. We've been using Tosca for years, so we are your regular customers that you so fiercely advise you cater for, but seeing the service, quality of food and the portion size all take a nosedive of late, perhaps its time for one of the other 2 restaurants to take the crown from you that you seemingly covet.
Overall, extremely disappointing and I highly doubt very much that we'll return; I felt that what should have been a special evening was utterly spoilt by...
Read moreafter a lovely day by the coast myself and my companion went for what we hoped would be a nice end to the day by having dinner here, oh boy were we mistaken. after arriving we had to wait what seemed like an age to have our drink order taken, after three other tables were seated served drinks and there food order taken we still had yet to receive our drinks. I would like to point out that yes it was a sun night, half the restaurant was closed with the lights out and by no means full. When we were eventually served our food, after having to call over a waiter we were served with quite frankly rubbish sub standard food. The food was all cold in the centre i.e. the arancini, the lasagne, my companions food the sea food pasta after been recommended by who later turned out to be the manager was very soggy and when mentioned this to the said manager while paying the bill his reply was "our pasta does not come al dente".............. After paying the bill I mentioned to the said manager that I we had to wait a long time to be served, i had yet to mention anything thing about the rubbish food but was met with over defence aggressive manager who instead of trying to appease me the customer who had payed the bill in full was met with the MANAGER raising his voice to me and drawing attention to me and my friend which i found really embarrassing and some what humiliating i would never go back here I would strongly recommend that you don't waste your hard earned cash on this place when the manager of this establishment has no clue about how to converse in a civil tongue or show any respect to...
Read moreTosca is a buzzy Italian restaurant on Shoreham high street. It was my 1st visit but most of our party had been before & enjoyed it. 8 of us went on a Friday evening, the placed was packed. So would advise you book in advance. Service was attentive, friendly & prompt. The menu has all that one would expect from an Italian restaurant - good choice of hot & cold antipasti, with a broad choice of meat dishes, some chicken & fish and loads of pasta & pizzas to choose from . The wine list is ok, not comprehensive, but enough for a good evenings libation. The food was served within 15 mins of our order been taken, which is good. Our table had a mix of pasta dishes & pizza. My pizza Campagnola was ok (5 out of 10), I prefer a thinner, crisper base, the toppings were IMHO scarce & the small cubes of chicken pieces a turn-off. My friends enjoyed their pasta dishes, but said the portion sizes were more like a starter than a main. Desert - between us we choose crème brûlée, tiramisu & banoffee pie - the best was the tiramisu by far. The banoffee pie had far too much cream & not enough banana or biscuit base, but again that's my personal preference. The crème brûlée was creamy & soft with a crispy top, our 2nd favourite. For a no fuss, fun evening out at your local Italian restaurant with a buzzy atmosphere & reasonable food at a reasonable price with good service Tosca is...
