I am not one to write reviews but we were disappointed and will put that down to 2nd day teething issues.
We were met warmly and were shown to our table but the head waiter ushered us away from the table we were supposed to have, which caused confusion with the other staff which was odd. The table they tried to put us on had a family with very you children so didn’t fancy that so requested the table that we were meant to have but the head waiter seemed to have an issue with it.
Anyway things kind of went to plan after that, our waitress was lovely, and the cocktail guy was awesome, clearly knew his stuff and served up some really good drinks. Just as well, as cocktails were £15 to £21 so they had to be good.
At one point the head waiter barged in on our conversation trying to promote his wine that he wanted to sell at £42 a bottle which was bang average.
The food came that was also bang average and quite small portions. Mine was just about warm enough but was so hungry I couldn’t be bothered to complain. This was the same experience with our friends we were with too.
The place was chaos and the change of shift staff came in, and they didn’t seem to have much of a clue, didn’t have much direction, and they didn’t seem at all happy to be there.
If you are charging these prices in Shoreham or even Brighton, the service, food and drinks has to be exceptional, sadly this wasn’t the case. It seems much more staff training is required (obvs not the Barman or our waitress), the food needs to be hot and much more improved.
We will go back but maybe in a couple months. It could be amazing...
Read moreWho would have thought Shoreham-by-Sea could be such a delightful culinary gem? Certainly not me—until now! Last Friday marked my first-ever visit to Shoreham, and we had the pleasure of dining at The Funky Dragon. Spoiler: it was an absolute blast.
From the get-go, the team made us feel welcome, even managing to squeeze us in last minute on a very busy evening. (Shoutout to them for tolerating my slightly tipsy antics, including repeatedly asking, “Are you Funky?”) Drinks were flowing quickly, and the atmosphere was electric, with lively banter and laughter filling the room.
We opted for the set menu, which ticked all the right boxes. The Aromatic Duck was a standout—rich, crispy, and full of flavor. We also added Singapore Noodles and asked for extra spice. They nailed it! Each bite was a fiery burst of deliciousness. The mixed starter platter was equally impressive, a medley of bold flavors that left us raving.
To top it all off, we noticed a cocktail maestro crafting martinis tableside—how could we resist? Naturally, we ordered two, and what an experience it was! Watching the mixologist in action added a fun, interactive element, and the martinis were exquisite—worth every penny.
I’m honestly baffled by the current 3.5-star average rating. It doesn’t do this place justice. From the buzzing atmosphere to the stellar food and cocktails, everything was top-notch. I’ll be returning with anyone and everyone I can convince.
Are you FUNKY?...
Read moreVisited for first time after hearing it had opened. Had there been a menu outside to look at we would not have gone in. Very overpriced. The prawn toast starter was extortionate for two triangles. The crispy duck was good but not enough sauce. I asked if the curries were very spicy but was told they would make it mild. It was so spicy I couldn't eat it so had to send it back. The man from the kitchen said there's only one sauce so it was never going to be made mild. So I was given lemon chicken instead. The But even this dish was far too lemony. You'd be hard pushed to eat this dish even though I normally don't mind lemon chicken. It's not what I would order in a restaurant and definitely not at their prices. My partners dish was okay although the prawns in the special rice appeared undercooked. The tables were sticky and they would have benefited from having a nice tablecloth on them with perhaps a candle/table light. These are the things one would expect from the menu prices. If they are going to keep their high prices they need to up the ante quite a lot to compete with other more reasonably priced restaurants where we have...
