The Indian Cottage Restaurant — Restaurant in Adur

Decided to try this place out as we love our curry dishes, however it was a massive disappointment and feel I need to warn would be visitors.

We made a reservation for 7:45 on Saturday evening, on arrival we had to wait close to 20 minutes. When we where eventually shown our table it wasn't part of the main seating area but some side annex which was small and featureless except for the 2 other parties parked either side of us. This didn't start well. It then took a further 20 minutes till any orders where taken, we then waited a whole hour before any food came out, that was a joke in ots own right, however they really excelled when they bought us out the mains and not the starters so had to wait even longer.

The food itself was very average and the service I think speaks for itself above.

when it came to paying the bill I was asked how it was, now I've never complained before but felt that this experience had been beyond poor and needed comment, they apologised and agreed to take 10% of the bill, wow £4.70, clearly they felt the experience was normal and was acceptable.

The night was finished off when we went pay the discounted bill and discovered they'd actually charged for item we never even had.

my advice to potential patrons, don't bother with this place, there are far better places close enough by if your looking for quality Indian cuisine with a nice atmosphere and service. if you decide not to take my advice, and I get that when making a desicion based on a review by an unknown. I would normally order from this place as my 'go to' curry house, however, never again! The food is cooked well in most cases, the Korma is their best cooked dish, hence me ordering from here for years. But the service experienced when the delivery was missing key items, i.e. the rice, extremely poor customer service / LACK OF. I never got my rice and therefore will NEVER use this place again, the service over the years has just got worse and worse, to now in which they simple offer no service what so ever. The guy on the phone was constantly talking over me whilst i tried to explain the issue they have caused with the missing key ingredient. I will advise as many people in shoreham as possible to avoid this place at all costs. Usually the wait times for delivery are excesses too, every other takeaway place is within 30-40 minutes, this place can take over an hour most of the time. AVOID...

I wouldn't normally leave a bad review but I really wasn't impressed. Service was extremely slow, I'd say we waited between 45 minutes to an hour from poppadoms to mains. I'm not as familiar with Indian food than those I was with but none of them were particularly impressed with their meals. The bhaji tasted like it was cooked in old oil, or wasn't right in some way. Not the restaurants' fault per se, but there was a group of men seated to us talking very loudly and swearing, but they weren't challenged once despite it affecting other customers' experience. The server kept repeating the wrong drinks order and the birthday something I had requested earlier, a small cake with candle was offered, didn't appear. The toilets left little to be desired too.
