I met a friend for a meal at The Bridge Inn at Duffield on Wednesday after a long absence, mainly as the place had very mixed reviews from my friends. However, I decided that, as it was a nice evening, I'd give it a go. The evening didn't start that well when the Wainwrights Gold beer came in at a very hefty £5.25, over a quid more expensive than anywhere else locally. I then ordered a sirloin steak with pepper sauce as I was quite hungry. When it arrived, it had a lot of fat on it, much more than you would usually find on this cut of meat. To be honest, the chef shouldn't have even considered serving it up. Trimming the fat and gristle wasn't made easier by the blunt steak knife. By the time I had finished, my 8oz steak was more like a 5oz one. On the plus side, I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare and that's exactly how it came. Unfortunately, the accompanying pepper sauce tasted quite sharp and sour, almost as if it had been made using clotted cream. At no point did anyone come to our table to ask if everything was OK with the meal. Perhaps they knew what the answer would be? When I complained to the waitress (manageress?) that was clearing up we were offered complementary coffees. Would I go back? No way, I'll go to one of the other pubs in Duffield in future!

Came here for Sunday lunch, haven't been for yrs, wasn't disappointed. Staff gave a very friendly & warm greeting, seated right away, drink order taken very quickly then food order taken as we couldnt decide what to eat as a good choice on menu. We both had beef dinner after asking how Beef was cooked as me & my friend don't like our meat pink.the staff was very knowledgeable & assured us it wasn't pink, & the Beef was cooked just how we liked, the Carrots, Potatoes & Parsnip were roasted & so tasty, we also had peas, green beans & snap peas, large Yorkshire Pud & red wine gravey which was not too strong, we both enjoyed, we don't like red cabbage & asked for that to be left off. We were asked during our meal if everything was ok which it was. We both had a pudding, chocolate brownie with pouring cream, my friend had Apple & Cherry Crumble with ice cream we both enjoyed. The pub was clean & very nicely decorated. We both said we would definitely come back again. We can highly recommend. Thank you.

Lunchtime Today The Bridge Inn, love the location it has a nice decor and a spacious riverside patio. The food was delicious and those that love their Steak Blue will be pleased to know the Chef pulls it off perfectly. The service was friendly and attentive. We had the Baked Cambert to share as a starter and the sprig of Rosemary gave it a hint of fragrant flavor very nice start to the meal. Tom and I had the Surf and Turf though I subbed Sweat Potato Fries the Steak was great and loved the Crispy Fried King Prawns the accompanying Chimichuri sauce was a little bland compared to others I've had didn't taste Evan a hint of Garlic. Mum went for the Gluten-free Royale Chicken Tikka Masala which she thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, Mum went with the GF Sticky Toffee Pudding and I had the Dark Chocolate Delice which was Topped with Popcorn both were excellent. They have a Lunch/ Early Dinner Deal of 2 courses at £15 or 3 courses at £17.50. Highly recommend a visit.

Updated the update:

I don’t understand why you’re lying on a review. It’s pretty pathetic from a grown man.

As per request, I phone more than 5 separate occasions, all at times convienent to Darren, who seems to be evasive.

Finally reached “Darren the manager” to discuss the issues as asked by himself… (coming off the bat aggressive, this portrays in his review replies) lied on the phone, and didn’t really seem to take any responsibility. Never had this kind of service anywhere.

The to end the call, (without hanging up) calling me a tw*t!

Not quite sure who on earth Darren thinks he is, but if that’s the way a manager of a pub speaks to anyone, then avoid this place at all costs! Then to return the call, after calling a paying customer that, they avoided the phone line.

Aboutsolute joke of a place, plenty of nice establishments in Duffield, this isn’t one!

Disgusting & very unprofessional,

10 mins to be seated once arrived. No one asked us for drinks, or to indicate we have to order separately. Arrived 430.. asked about the menu “until 5pm” said I had to “hurry”, and proceeded to never come back so missed the slot for that menu. Conveniently…. Then straight away to be told what time we had to leave by ! (Common courtesy in most establishments and understood by ourselves,) not nice being told what time to leave as soon as you sit down mind!

Personal skills lacking, also when a member of the party rang up, very abrupt and rude on the phone. We only kept the reservation as it was for a birthday and didn’t want to change plans. Plenty of other nice other food venues, with staff that have customer service skills!

Plus: food wasn’t bad, hats off to the chef (off the full price menu, so paid more than needed)

Overall, wouldn’t return. Pub food with people skills anywhere!

thanks, but no thanks,

well...

Booked a table for tonight (29.8) as we had had a leaflet through the door. The service wasn’t exactly the most friendly from any of the five staff members we saw and had contact with tonight. Having worked in a bar myself I was disappointed to see flat pints at an average of £6 a pint. The bar staff was two quite young looking people had to ask several times what our order was when we only ordered two drinks.

The gentleman who seated us at our table was very blunt not only to us but to an elderly couple in front of us.

We were told someone would be with us shortly however after nearly a fifteen minute wait we opted to order through the app. The price for two starters and two mains came to around £60 before the discount offer that had come through the door.

The starter was nice but nothing amazingly special. The mains however weren’t great at all. I opted for the hunters chicken which was essentially a deep fried frozen chicken steak with bbq sauce drizzled over the top and fried frozen chips. It was very dry and bland. For around £17 the presentation resembled school dinners. My partner opted for the mixed grill. The egg was hard, the mushroom was definitely on its way out and the meat was incredibly stringy and chewy. The mouthful I tried of the mixed grill tasted very sour and tasted like the meat which was supposed to be fresh had been sat out on the side before being placed into the freezer.

We ordered a second round of drinks which was a pint of ale and a Pepsi max and this was just under £10 which felt very expensive.

Within two hours of finishing our meal we were both very unwell and have continued to feel unwell.

At no point did anyone ask us how our meal was and there was no staff in the dining area for us to call over either.

We ended up leaving feeling very disappointed and do not...

It’s really not my thing writing negative reviews, times are hard and businesses are struggling, and in light of this and having our own businesses we do understand the difficulties that lots of us experience, however it seems that common courtesy has gone out of the window, no personal touch anymore no being glad to see you using our establishment and being totally ignorant!!

We arrived tonight as a couple at just after 1700 in the hope of having a meal in a beautiful pub/ restaurant at the side of the river, a hand written sign at the entrance informed everyone entering that bookings only after 4pm!! No problem we will just have a quick drink and be on our way!! As we walked by the “wait to be seated sign” to the bar we were looked up and down in disgust by the very ignorant and impersonal barman ( glasses and blonde hair) who clearly did not want to be there, I’m always polite and thankful for anyone serving in whatever capacity whatsoever, I’ve never felt so uncomfortable in a PUBLIC PLACE/ Restaurant in all my life! No interactions, no politeness he may as well have been a robot, no smiles no banter no chat, now I can remember post covid when places such as this we’re struggling, they were eager to get you back in through the doors to patronise the place, I’m afraid to say that a bit of good old fashioned training may help with customer services and how to interact, for goodness sake if you don’t want to be in the industry and do not enjoy the job, then find something you do, both me and my wife agreed that this place will not be visited again due to the unpleasant experience we have had, in complete contrast the next venue we went to and not far away from here following was a very pleasant experience, great food and great atmosphere, and excellent...
