Ripley's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Amber Valley

I've been going for a few years now and the food is lovely. Most of the staff are pleasant. I went Wednesday 8th July 2020. I was so pleased the restaurant was open. I normally sit on a bench as you walk in but customers were there who had rang for their order, so I sat on a table with 4 chairs. I sat down and after about 15 minutes the chair collapsed...WHAT A SHOCK!! I landed on my bum and lay down on my side. The manager came and asked if I wanted help getting up but she was busy and I said that I didn't want to rush, plus she wouldn't of been able to lift me up and it wouldn't of done my back any good getting up front ways. It's better getting up being on your hands and knees which I did. I went and sat on a bench. I wasn't happy at all. All I could think about was if I got back trouble. I made sure they filled the accident book in. The manager said that the chairs were old. Well I think they need to replace them. I said I wasn't going to pay but I did. SO CUSTOMERS BEWARE OF THE...

Food was pretty decent...but the table service was not. Restaurant staff are polite but seemingly don't get paid to wait on tables. That's how it came across.

The table service was atrocious....you might as well just buy yourself from the counter...and then just sit-down. No one would ever know...certainly not the table-staff. They're oblivious to everyone (and everything) that's going on around them.

Order taken wrongly...drinks tray just left on our table...waiting staff frequently just disappear (never to be seen again)....it's such a shame....anyone with half a brain could earn some seriously good tips - just waiting on these tables.

The website promised so much....that the "restaurant" completely failed to deliver.

It's such a shame...if "Management" only saw for themselves what it's like to be a mystery diner. They'd probably want to do so much...

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips, and incredibly thorough Covid-19 procedures. I felt really safe here in the current pandemic. I don’t normally enjoy fish and chips as they are often greasy and leave you feeling a bit sick and heavy in the stomach, as well as often being cold. However, these were totally the opposite - beautifully cooked buttery flaky cod, light crispy chips with a fluffy middle. Freshly cooked and piping hot. I didn’t feel I’d eaten a fatty meal at all afterwards. Even better, I got the all-in meal deal for £6.50 which included mushy peas. I don’t normally like mushy peas either but these were very tasty. I would definitely recommend this place and would come back again if I’m in the area. I like their sustainable...
