Went here for lunch with my gf during her birthday and had the worst service ever in all the resturants I've been to. Not only was the service bad but also the price of the food was ridiculously high for the food quality.

Why the service was bad? We walked into the resturant by ourselves and it was pretty empty, the outside view was nice but because the weather wasn't so great we stayed inside. We sat our selves down and waited for about 10 - 15 mins and no greeting from the waiter/waitress. I had to get the menu myself and not until another 10 more mins did someone come and ask us what we would like to order. The waiter/waitress apologised that it was "busy" even though it was pretty empty but we just let it go and took their word for it.

My gf had ordered a cocktail and a burger meal, whereas I had ordered the steak frites and a pint of beer. The food didn't take too long to come but when it did come, my "steak" (I don't even know if you would call it a steak) which looked more like a slice of roast beef, was so thin and just grey, no char at all. I was so disappointed that I didn't even take a picture, which I should have done.

Not only was my food horrible looking, they didn't even provide me a steak knife. So I was using a normal knife and was struggling just to cut the steak and only after I ate half of it did a waitress notice, and gave me a steak knife. Bear in mind this whole time we still haven't recieved our drinks and we have already eaten half of our food, the drinks finally come when we have basically finished the food. You'd normally expect the drinks to come before the food and they gave us another excuse because they couldn't find the mint leaf for the cocktail, which was utter bs. So my beer needed a mint leef as well?? Clearly they just didn't want to admit that they forgot about our drinks.

In the end once we finished our food we didn't even want to stay so we asked for the bill, and they had the audacity to include the optional service charge without even asking us if we wanted to pay it.... We obviously asked them to remove it because of how bad the service and food was. Overall we paid £54 just for two meals with a drink, which I wouldn't even pay half that, for the quaility and service that was provided by this place. I would never recommend anyone to go here. The only good thing was that there was free parking but no one told us that there was and we had to figure that out ourself and...

Went with my wife and friends there for a Sunday roast. I had made a reservation ahead for 2.45, but we actually got there 20 minutes earlier. Nonetheless, the team was very happy to offer us a table that had just become available.

As we sat at the table, Martha - our host, brought us the food and drinks menu.

We went with 2 chicken roasts, 1 beef roast and 1 pork roast as well as a side of cauliflower cheese. As for drinks, we got a pint of peach beer, berry refresher, a pint of lemonade and a pint of soda & lime.

The two chicken roasts was the first to come, within 15 minutes, however my partner and I requested for the chicken to be roasted a bit more so that the skin is crunchy. The host was respectful of our request and took the roast back to the kitchen for further cooking.

Whilst that was being done, the other roasts came. After setting them on the table, we were asked if we needed any more sauces, especially gravy, to which we said yes.

The two chicken roasts then came out and then the extra gravy was brought at no extra charge. We had started to eat and Martha came to check in on us. The food tasted very good, however we were still waiting for the drinks to come and for the side of cauliflower cheese. She was kind enough to go and check on both of them.

A couple of minutes later, we had everything we needed and began to feast. We chose a table right by the door as it was quite hot. The downside to that was a large group of bikers came to the pub, all of them on Harley Davidsons which were very loud. It must've been 20-30 of them cause they kept coming and coming.

Martha checked back on us again and I requested another pint of lime & soda, which was promptly brought to the table.

Once we finished our food, all the plates were taken away and dessert menus brought for each of us, however we decided against.

We really liked the food and the service. The only downside was the loud noise made by the Harleys, but that is out of the pub's control.

Overall a very nice experience and we would happily recommend the pub to anyone for good food and...

Its a nice setting for a pub by the water with good amount of seating outside. Was nice for a drink in the evening sun before eating.

We went for a late Sunday lunch as a group of 9 at 5.30pm and were told on arrival that our booking had been given away (someone had claimed to be us), so we were told to wait and they would find a table - which they did but it was after a 30-45min wait. We were than told that most of the roasts had finished but there was 1 beef left which one person had. For £24 it was pretty rubbish - it was cold when it arrived, it was clear it had been reheated or just left under a hot lamp as everything was overcooked - the parsnips were as hard as wooden sticks and you needed to soak the yorkshire pudding with gravy to be edible. The rest of the meals were good and others in our party were happy, though we were surprised on the difference between the adult burger and the children's as it is just an extra beef burger - though the adults is over £10 more and you have to pay extra for cheese - so good value on the children menu, not so for adults.

Service was pretty poor. We were put in an area on our own and it felt like we were forgotten about. We got bored waiting to order and ended up going up to the bar (You can do it on your mobile we found out and there is WiFi, but when you are paying 10% tip, you hope to be waitered on, especially as we had allergies in the group). When they brought the food out, one person asked for more gravy and the waitress immediately disappeared to get some, but it would have been better if she had waited to see if other people wanted anything as we had to wait 5mins for her to return before we could ask for sauces, etc.

Overall, it felt like it had potential to be a really nice experience, but I think we were just unlucky and went at the wrong time of the day - it felt like tired staff all eager to go home and we were a nuisance... Which isn't a...

We have been known to come to this beautiful pub from time to time and have never been disappointed. Our most recent visit was on the first Sunday of July - late afternoon. I had previously booked a table for 3 persons on line. The free car park was quite full and we feared that the place might be overrun. In fact, it was pleasantly quiet, at least inside. We were shown to our table and an energetic young red haired lady took our orders. All three of us went for the Sunday roast beef. This seemed to take her aback a little, asking if that was all we wanted. Yes. If the portions were reasonable, then we didn't need anything else. Apart from the drinks - in my case, a pint of Tanglefoot beer. The carafe of water we asked for never appeared but another waiter corrected that for us. In fact the young lady rarely made any other appearance at our table and we got the bill from one of the other staff members. All in all we left over 70 quid her, including tip. All in all, we enjoyed our Sunday meal experience in this lovely pub in a superb part of West Sussex situated as it is by the river Arun outside the town of Arundel.

Definitely a subpar experience. Food was top end London prices, which seemed very excessive for the area and the food failed to live up to London standards. The mussels in white wine sauce was dissapointing in the extreme as the sauce was relatively bland and water thin. My pizza was still doughy and lacking in any particular flavor, which needed salt, pepper AND Tabasco to salvage it. The pizza was incredibly sparse with the toppings, which was dissapointing considering it cost an (ironically meaty) £16. The seating and tables were sticky and cramped, the service was slow (Which is impressive considering you have to order at the bar and there's no table service) and food was terribly average. Final nail in the coffin for me was when we got the bill (Which, of course, you have to go to the bar yourself to get) I found they had snuck in a 10% service charge without asking me once how I felt about the "service" I had received. I paid it, but at £57 for a mediocre lunch for two, I will not be back. The sole redeeming feature of this place is the lovely river view. Would not recommend.
