Never been here before, first time visiting was Xmas day 2024. Obviously the table had to be booked in advance & credit/debit card info held in case of cancellation understandably. Again the place was understandably busy. We were seated in what I understand to be the new conservatory area overlooking the garden with big patio doors & lovely skylight, I also spotted an air con in here for use if necessary in the summer. On this occasion our food choices had been pre ordered for the 3 course meal. Unfortunately only 3 out of 6 of us were able to attend (illness), the 3 non attendees were still charged the full amount as it was very short notice (I rang early to check what the situation was), so I went along with empty takeaway boxes so that I could at least take home 3 mains & 3 puds for the unwell people, this was no problem at all for The Fox staff to sort for me & I noticed I wasn't the only person doing this. The salmon pate & french onion soup was delicious, & the turkey roast my uncle had was huge, he got through it but I'm unsure if I'd of managed it, I had the salmon en croute which I noticed was home made, not pre made, just melted in the mouth. The mince pie ice cream was a different but very nice twist. The meal ended with mince pies, tea, coffee. The atmosphere was nice, people enjoying themselves & background music that wasn't so loud that you had to shout. The wait staff were excellent, despite obviously being very busy each course arrived in a suitable timeframe. I was concerned we might not get a parking space but as we were the second sitting it freed up space in the car park as first sitting tables had gone, otherwise it's yellow lines nearby or a 5 minute walk from a free car park by the church (St Mary's I think). Well done The Fox. I must visit...
Read moreI rarely write bad reviews but I felt this was important to share
We visited the Fox today as a treat from my parents for a replacement Christmas lunch. We’ve been to the pub before for food which last time we said was well over priced for what it was.
We thought we’d give it another go as often things improve.
Sadly this time that wasn’t the case, three of us ordered the turkey roast which I’m sad to say was the worst roast I’ve ever had.
The Yorkshire pudding was flat, overcooked and completely covered in dry mixed herbs from a supermarket, so much so it couldn’t rise in the oven. The turkey was either microwaved or so overcooked it was dry and inedible (my mum couldn’t cut half of hers let alone eat it) and the roast potato’s were definitely not cooked that day, they had a translucent look to them which tells me they’ve been sitting around a while.
The veg was basic peas and sweet corn frozen in a bag.
The gravy also had so much dry herbs in we couldn’t eat that either.
For nearly £16 whoever cooked this and found it acceptable to serve up should be ashamed of themselves.
We felt taken advantage of and it all left a really bad taste in our mouths (excuse the punn)
Suffice to say we didn’t even bother with pudding
The staff in fairness were really good and offered apology but we all walked out hungry as we couldn’t eat much, with no offer of a refund.
None of us will be back and as locals we won’t be recommending it either, for a drink I’d say it’s a nice atmosphere but for food I’d...
Read moreThis is a local pub, for local people. Joking aside we celebrated here recently, got a nice table in the roomy dining area, and enjoyed delicious food served by attentive and efficient staff. It's a dog friendly establishment, so something to take into account, but it posed no issues for us, in spite of the vocal black Labrador. Dude just had something to say! The pub is somewhat hidden in the depths of Felpham Village, but if you know, you know, right? The pub has character for sure, age appropriate for the establishment, but nothing that makes or breaks the deal for your meal. The kids often drink here, so it does get quite busy and vocal as the night progresses. The car park is quite small and busy, but the spaces are ample, which is nice, unless you happen to park next to someone inconsiderate - but, we're British, so you will just have to flay yourself if it means you can get in without fuss. £20 a head including drinks is pretty reasonable, and you'd have to be extremely fussy to have...
