The Gurkha Palace — Restaurant in Ashfield

I was a part of a group of 18 people. The Ghurka Palace in Sutton-in-Ashfield was chosen due to the friendliness, attentiveness, & the exceptional quality of the food I’d personally experience the night they opened.

The staff at the Ghurka took care of our party from the moment we arrived, they went the extra mile to ensure everyone’s needs were met.

We had an array of dishes, all presented beautifully, and the quality of the food second to none.

As ever the Naan bread was exceptional, so soft and light. The lamb was like butter, so tender and tasty. The sauces were spiced to perfection, so the delicate layers revealed themselves to the palate.

The portion sizes were perfect.

The ambiance and comfort was just right for our group.

A licensed bar, with a good selection of drinks were available to the group.

I’d like to thank the Ghurka staff for their attentiveness to one of our group who is coeliac, they made sure everything was suitable for them, and checked throughout the meal they were satisfied with their choices.

A vegetarian in our group had a very varied menu to choose from.

It was really lovely to see our party say “oh you’ve got to try what I’ve had”. “These Popadoms are the lightest I’ve ever had”. “I’ve never had rice so good as this”. “These pickles are so tasty and bitter different”.

One of our party doesn’t usually eat spicy food but commented that the spices weren’t overwhelming and the mango chicken was delicious and delicate.

Some of our party said “I’m definitely having online delivery from here”! And “Oh it’s a winner”.

I was personally relieved that my recommendation of the Ghurka was successful.

I’d recommend the Ghurka Palace to singles, couples, groups, for sit in and take out - I’m a nurse and after a long shift, when I didn’t have time to eat, I had a lovely take out of exceptional quality.

An added bonus, the Ghurka are now doing loyalty cards, so the more you visit the more discount! Also, at night plentiful free parking!

Today we went out to celebrate a very special day, and although we could have chosen a posh restaurant with fancy décor and atmosphere, we decided to return to a true hidden gem in Sutton in Ashfield – The Gurkha Palace.

This was our second visit, and once again we were blown away. Last time we were amazed by the flavours, and this time we tried different dishes – each one absolutely delicious. Every bite of our curries, naan, and rice was bursting with flavour, freshly prepared and beautifully balanced.

On top of that, the service was just as impressive – warm, friendly, and attentive. Our waiter and his colleague made us feel so welcome, which made the whole evening even more enjoyable.

We’ve eaten in restaurants all over the world, and I must honestly say The Gurkha Palace is right up there with the very best. Definitely The Best Curries we’ve ever had! If you love Asian or Indian food, you will not be disappointed. This is our new favourite spot, a small, local place that deserves to be supported and recognised.

Very friendly team. Food was promptly delivered, hot and delicious. Plenty of vegetarian and milder options on the menu so we found something for everyone in our family of picky eaters. Will definitely be ordering from Gurkha Palace again, thank you 😊

Update: Ordering from GP is now a family tradition whenever we grown-up kids come home to visit, the driver is always friendly and really makes us feel valued as customers.
