Muscovado Coffee Shop — Restaurant in Basildon

When I first moved to Basildon, I stumbled upon this lovely local café while exploring the area. I was browsing the menu from a distance when a kind lady approached me and asked what I was looking for. Even though the item I mentioned wasn’t on the menu, she warmly smiled and said she’d be happy to prepare exactly what I wanted. That moment of genuine kindness left a lasting impression on me.

I returned several times after that, and every visit was just as delightful—the food and drinks were always superb, and the service consistently friendly and welcoming.

After starting a new job, I wasn’t able to visit for quite some time. But when I finally returned today, I was greeted with the same warm smile and a delicious cup of coffee. It felt like nothing had changed. When I explained why I’d been away and mentioned how tired I’d been, she sincerely asked if I was okay. That small gesture meant so much—it’s rare to find that level of genuine care these days.

This is true customer service, and it’s what makes this café so special. I regret not asking the lady’s name, but I want her (and everyone else) to know how much I appreciate her kindness.

If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend trying the caramel macchiato and chai latte—they’re absolutely delicious!

Made an order here once and it took ages to come and by this time my coffee was cold, the lady said in future ask to have the coffee brought up the same time as the food. I've been doing this regularly and it works ... However Tuesday this week my wife asked for my coffee to be brought up with my sausage sandwich but it was brought up early ! Then when the sausage sandwich arrived it was dripping in onion chutney, there was so much in it the bread had gone soggy , and it was impossible to eat without it falling apart. And to make things worse while struggling to hold it together to eat some bloke came up asked me to move my napkin off the table I was sharing so he could pull them apart and proceeded to spray cleaner all over the table near my food ! Very disappointed. Must have had different...

I ordered a vegan sausage roll which when arrived was notably stale as the sausage was rock hard. I had eaten some of the pastry and then noticed that the sausage had mould on it. When I returned this I was asked if I would like another one as “they won’t all be mouldy”. I declined and did receive a refund. However, I was told they was mouldy because the tray was wet, however I’m not sure I believe this as the bottom of the pastry was not wet and it was the top of the sausage that had mould.

Either way, I appreciate the refund, but probably will not be ordering...
