Up The Road Basildon — Restaurant in Basildon

Tis an odd one. Normally pretty decent. C - Tier overall. Food is pretty good... maybe. But more and more often, it's a roll of the dice on the service. Tonight's saga involves a missing hamburger. Not a big deal as the dude it was destined to, had a backup burger to tuck into.

We called and informed them of this rogue pattie and they seemed to respond well. Not so. A few minutes later I noticed I had not 1 but 3 missed calls from a number I had not recognised. I called back and to my surprise... it was Boss Man.

He proceeded to tell me that he checked the cctv and that he confirmed the burger went into the bag. He told me that he checked with the driver and that the driver confirmed he had it too. Before I could respond, boss man abandoned the call.

I was certain that the phone merely cut out and so I called back and together we worked out that the only weak link in the chain was the delivery driver, who happens to be Boss Man's brother!!

Pro: decent... maybe

Cons: emotional you can get a cheaper 20" pizza elsewhere boss man's brother might eat your burger

Overall: It's a little bit random, mandem. You might have to put up with some banter, but at least the second burger turned...

So, there's a few things that made me give this place only 1 star. To start we ordered our food around 18:15pm online, on their website, and it gave us an estimated delivery time of around 19:02pm. At about 19:46pm (around an hour and a half after we ordered) I finally received a phone call from the delivery driver to say that he was outside. We ordered mozzarella sticks, chicken fillet in a bun (with chips), chicken strips & a mixed doner kebab. Once we brought the food inside, we opened the bag to find the oil from the mixed doner kebab all over the paper it was wrapped in and all over the bag, so we had to clean that up before we even started to eat it. The mozzarella sticks and chicken strips tasted like they had just bought them at the frozen section of a supermarket and had no flavour to them at all. The worst bit of everything was the chicken fillet in a bun which wasn't a fillet at all, but five little pieces of chicken thrown in a bun with no salad or sauce. We have decided that we'll never order anything...

I have a really mixed opinion about this place. First of all not everyone knows but this business scored only 2 out of 5 in a food hygiene rating which is pretty scary and I think everyone should be aware of that. However, when it comes to my experience I had a really bad experience with customer service in which the young guy I was talking to was very unpleasant and hung up on me before I finished talking which resulted in my order getting messed up, and when I called him back he just kept arguing with me and hunging up instead of trying to help and resolve the issue. When it comes to food I have only ordered a kebab and it was very fresh and thick cut which was very good, however on my next order I have received a kebab that was very dry and sickening so it really...
