The Red Rose — Restaurant in Basingstoke and Deane

I called the restaurant before ordering to confirm that I will get 1 mint source per chicken chat meal. The man on the phone confirmed that I will receive exactly that. When the food arrived there was only one small tub of mint source in the bag despite me ordering 2 chicken chats with puree.

I called the restaurant about this matter and he said again that you get 1 per meal. When I said yes I ordered 2 meals with 2 starters been chicken chat, he said no 1 per bag. So I responded with , if I order 10 chicken chats I would still only receive one tiny tub. He said yes that’s right. So I told him I was leaving bad review due to it not been good enough. He furthermore said that’s fine and hung up the phone

In addition to this the food is usually spot on. I would even go as far to say the best in Basingstoke. However tonight, the food was disappointing. First of all it was cold. And the chicken seemed like it had been cooked and just thrown in the source, not marinated or cooked in the source. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the naan bread truthfully.

I will not order from here again, simply because the customer service is atrocious, but also because it is not a cheap Indian restaurant and the food was not...

So ordered for delivery this evening and was quoted 45mins to 1 hour, at 6:40pm which was early enough to avoid the rush that usually happens most weekends, while I’ve used this place multiple times over the years and delivery has always been hit and miss today takes the title as worst experience, not only am I spending a lot of money on food for delivery as a weekend treat for the family I then try to contact the company and am met with engaged response on phone, when I finally get through the gentleman on the other end of the phone informs me that it should be on the way in next 10-15 minutes (that was at 20:10) and guess what ….. yep that’s right I’m still waiting, anyways back to the chap on the phone, apart from the snigger in his voice when I explained that this was not good enough I was offered no apologies and no offer of any compensation….. not that I want hand outs but at least an apology rather then laughter and sniggering down the phone, absolutely will never be returning to here for an order, utterly disgusting customer service

The food was really hit and miss. Some dishes like mushroom rice, tarka dal, mushroom and garlic puri were delicious, others were ok, and a couple we just tried and couldn't eat- for example the sag paneer which was made of frozen spinach, had melted grated cheese on top, and no seasoning. Or the potatoes in the chana aloo which were not properly cooked. The colour of the mains was a bit scary- I've never seen food that bright red before. Definitely not natural. The service was ok. We were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday lunch time. We didn't know what time they closed until a random man (who must work there but we hadn't seen) came over to the table, said nothing but picked up the bill and shoved it in my stepmother's face. I wouldn't choose to eat there again which is a shame because other reviews sound much...
