Travelled 30 miles with friends to eat out and arrived at Edi's in Retford after looking at their fb page and reading some good reviews, we thought we would try the fish and chips on the menu. On arriving we sat and ordered some drinks when a very polite young man brought us some menu's, I told him we didn't need them we will have the Cod and chips off the menu on the wall, to which he replied that they only do that menu in the morning (???), after a bit of deliberation we said we would just have drinks but thank you. The waiter came back after a few minutes and informed us we could have Cod and chips if we were all eating the same, so we agreed, which we thought was good of them, the owners I presume, who incidentally never came and spoke to us.
Good points ; Beautiful place inside, very polite young waiter, very clean kitchen which you can see, lovely clean toilets.
Bad points ; THE FOOD ! Frozen breaded fish not cooked very well and frozen chips, I have honestly cooked better quality frozen fish from Lidl ! The food in Wetherspoons is a lot better AND cheaper. Main menu expensive. The drinks ; Sadly even the coffee was mediocre. Apart from the very polite young waiter we were not made to feel welcome at all and the place was nearly empty. I was waiting for someone to ask if everything was ok, but for once nobody asked.
I don't usually write reviews but felt I had to as it was my idea to visit this "restaurant" and I had to apologise to my friends. On the plus side Mamma Giusi's coffee shop nearby is excellent if you are ever...
Read moreBeen wanting to try here for quite a few wks .Outside there's a couple of tables which seat 4people ,possibly space could be a bit cramped/ tight as got barrier stand round the area, bare in mind there's no canopy or brolly in place for sun/ rain protection .In a group of 3 we did sit outside in the sunshine,It was about 10.30am on Saturday morning & the place wasn't busy ,I had to go & ask for a menu as non were avaliable on the tables itself ..There's no table service so you have to place your order inside. The menu itself has a very extensive range of offerings.Theres plenty of spacious table areas inside with the kitchen area down @the back, appeared to be nice & clean. They do have a very nice display of tempting cakes next to the till.I found the staff service to be very pleasant when placing my order as I did ask a few questions with it being my 1st visit here .Payment can be made by cash or card .It wasn't too long a wait before my order arrived with my toast which was already buttered came along with a fruit scone ,a good few minutes later the drinks arrived...a cappuccino coffee & 2 pots of tea .I must say I do prefer the food 1st .The toast was very nice even though a little under done on the reverse. The fruit scone was very dry as 1 side broke when being cut in half .It was disappointing to find the tea pots are those metal type which often leak when you pour. The cappuccino was ok .The place did start to great a few more customers as I was leaving so it is quite popular...
Read moreabsolutely love Ediz — the food is top quality, packed with flavour, and the portions are generous. The owner is a respectful, chilled, and genuine person with a passion for his restaurant— the type of person I tend to surround myself with in daily life!
A couple of small points: takeaway prices are the same as dining in, which feels a bit steep considering you’re not using the in-house services. A 10–20% discount on collection orders could encourage more takeaway business — though I understand it's not their main focus.
The atmosphere is one thing that does let it down. Although the decor is stylish and modern, it lacks that intriguing aesthetic of an authentic Turkish restaurant, maybe adding more authentic decor/music could bring the atmosphere more in line with the amazing food. Right now, it feels a bit more like a trendy London spot, whereas I want to feel like I have magically teleported 2000miles into a Turkish restaurant when I walk through those front doors!
Lastly, on the atmosphere again, while the chef and owner are great , the waiting staff could show more enthusiasm and connection to the culture given they are working in a Turkish restaurant!! Knowing each and every item on the menu , knowing any ingredient in every dish, and just a general excitement for been part of a great restaurant. (Typically the waiting staff are local people which is great don’t get me wrong. Just try to soak up the culture a little)
Still, just small things and it is...
