We arrived to a mostly empty pub. We were seated right next to a door near the kids play area as we couldn't be seated anywhere else due to the mess that was still on the tables. The table hadn't been cleaned very well as it was quite sticky in areas. This was just the start of our issues with our visit. Upon checking the menu, we noticed a large number of items were unavailable. Due to mine and my partners dietary requirements, we were left with very little choice on what we could have. Not to worry, we thought, and ordered ourself some burgers and a meal for our 2 year old. Food came relatively quickly but there was a small problem: I ordered the classic beef burger and added cheese. My burger came with bacon: the menu did not state this burger came with bacon and I did not add it. I didn't want to complain and I was hungry, so I just ate my burger and then helped my son with his food: there was also an issue with the kids meal. We ordered carrots as a side for my son but we're informed there were no cooked carrots available. We saw the carvery area on our way out: there were plenty of cooked carrots available. Upon using the toilets in the family area, my partner noted that they had not been cleaned as there was poo all over the toilet seat in the gents toilet: this was still there when we were leaving. The ladies toilet in the family area was also unclean with poo smeared on the wall that was not cleaned before we left. My partner went to use the gents toilets near the entrance and noted that there was no toilet paper in them and this was not stocked up before we left. The kids area has very little for young children to play with and there was nothing available to try to keep children at the table: other pubs with children's area usually gave colouring sheets, crayons, and books available. The last major issue we had was with dessert. We decided that dessert may redeem the pub so ordered some. We ordered this at 6:50pm. It had still not arrived at 7:30pm when I went to the bar to cancel the order: we have a 2 year old who needed to be home and in bed before 8pm. The server was lovely and apologised that this has happened. She went to get a supervisor/manager who could cancel the order and refund us. The lady who arrived, Gloria I believe the server said her name was, did not apologise for this or even try to resolve the issue. As we were leaving, the table next to us had their starter arrive. They had ordered this around the same time as we had ordered our pudding: they had ordered a sharer nachos and a normal sized portion arrived. It's clearly not just us who had a bad experience tonight. Overall, we are very unimpressed with this pub and will not be returning. We will also strongly advise our friends/family to dine elsewhere. I would greatly appreciate it if the owner/manager contacted me regarding this as I would like this to be investigated as a formal complaint and expect to be receiving some...

This hotel/motel appears to have an overstretched team, with staff multitasking across various roles, even during obvious quiet periods.

On arrival, I witnessed another guest complaining about receiving a double, when they'd booked a twin. The two staff members handling that situation then left with the guest, saying they would return soon. After waiting for some minutes before I was eventually checked in by the bar staff.

Finding my room was initially confusing, as the signage only indicats first-floor room numbers, and direction to the second floor rooms. I considered exiting the building to look for another entrance but eventually located the stairs, after initially heading in the wrong direction.

Unfortunately, when I entered my room, I discovered it was already occupied, with a guest on the bed and their belongings and luggage all over the floor. It is concerning how their system can issue a key to a room that was already in use! and it raised serious doubts about security. I raised my concerns with the staff, who didn’t seem particularly bothered, and then gave me a twin room instread of the double room I booked (had to check the booking to find this out!).

The Peroni I ordered had an odd taste, as though the pipes hadn’t been cleaned recently. When ordering food by table number, the staff were unsure of my table, and before even placing my order, I was mistakenly given someone else’s meal. Concerned about food quality, I opted for fish and chips, but the fish was overcooked, and the batter was burnt. This is not good value for money, and I chose to dine at the Milehouse pub up the road for my second night.

I mentioned being given an occupied room to the only staff member in the morning, who acknowledged the issue and offered me a complimentary breakfast, which I appreciated.

In the room, there was a odour of stale cigarette smoke. Additionally, in multiple occassions I noticed a man in a high-visibility jacket sitting in a van with the engine running. I assume this is security, though it was unclear why he was stationed outside rather than inside the building.

A more serious issue arose with the bathroom. Whist sitting on the toilet, I realised my clean socks were getting wet from wastewater leaking across the floor from the pedestal. Unfortunately my clean socks and underwear got wet, and I had to use a towel to prevent the waste water from soaking into the carpet. I raised the problem with the staff member at breakfast, who didn’t seem particularly bothered who flippantly said "I'll get that sorted for ya".

While this hotel is relatively inexpensive, I would prefer to stay somewhere that feels safer, more organised, and offers better food and drink. Based on this experience, I will not be rebooking for my future 2025...

Carvery was very nice, shame about the plastic burning smell in the air which made us feel sick. Other than that kids loved the limitless drink and icecream

Gone down hill, went for father's day booked table to b3 told when trying to order nearly everything was off the menu and nothing on the grill tried to order drinks to be told all beer sold out and no cider either, father got a burger but was a brown Gutenberg free one and took ages to come and very small apparently coz most things sold out cavery was poor hardly anything replenished so limited on what u could eat and poor meat servings too compared to in the past. Kids ordered sundea for it to come out with one flavour icecream and nothing else to be told yet again sorry everything sold out. We went for this meal at 5:30 which was booked and they had hardly any food or drink and it was fathers day so they wasn't prepared at all ans no sorry or refunds offered either just a sarcastic bar server. Tables were filthy and sticky food on floor and they wasn't even busy we had to.ask 3 times for table to be wiped even cutlery dirty.

Went back again a week or so later and again most things were off the menu and limited drinks so proves wasn't a one off we walked out and went to mac Donald's instead. Such a shame was one of my best places to.eat and dad the best carvery and always happy friendly staff it's changed I hear its changed management well I not be going back for a 3rd time.

Update, went back a 3rd time big mistake... 30/3/25 Booked a table then made to wait ages as table wasn't free. Got the table and it was dirty and sticky and not the table we had asked for as we had someone with a wheelchair and they can only manage to fit under the large table near fire escape so we had to make do whichbwas uncomfortable for the disabled person, food came out which was great and some of party had carvery which was disappointing, beef wasn't cooked properly very slimy and tasteless and not much if a selection on vegtables/sides and gravy was horrible and like water so food was left and we all went home early, we didn't even bother getting a second drink or desert this is now 3rd time it's been like this so def won't be coming back which is a shame as we used to come a a lot but 3rd time like this we have now...

Booked a family room for Friday and Saturday night. Room was air conditioned but limited to 19°C. It was generally clean but when I went to pick up a glass from the tray it was stuck so badly it knocked over the cups that were on there. Nowhere near enough milk or sugar provided, had to ask staff for extra. Bathroom had a shower over the bath, supplied by a mixer tap. Was quite hard work to get it to stay on shower setting instead of tap. Loo paper was very cheap and nasty (suggest you take your own), liquid soap is in a dispenser both over the bath and by the sink. Considering the room is supposed to be for 3 people it is definitely not adequately equipped. 5 coat hangers in a small wardrobe and although I am only 5'1" it wasn't long enough to hang my knee length dress without it bunching up at the bottom. No drawers at all, just a couple of shelves at bottom of wardrobe. No bedside cabinets, just a small shelf either side of double bed. Double socket underneath shelf with 2 USB sockets. I used 1 of these to plug my phone in to charge overnight but realised in the morning it hadn't charged at all. Went to beer garden Friday night for a drink. You have to order via their website and it is delivered to your table. Very expensive drinks! Waited over 20 minutes for it to arrive, had to go into bar to chase, then arrived within a couple of minutes. Tried to order a 2nd drink about 10.15 only to be told by the website that service wasn't available. Asked a member of staff who said they had stopped serving. Tried again on Saturday night at 9.50 to order drinks again to find they had stopped serving! Had breakfast Saturday morning. Tables were clean and well presented. Menu was a little confusing had to ask waiter for explanation. No decaffeinated coffee available. Food was ok but definitely not worth the price. Waiter was polite but a little surly.

It all started so well. Blue skies, great looking pub at the side of a canal with a really good beer garden. Four of us went in to order a meal and were told there was a 40-minute wait, no problem. We waited and waited, and waited and waited. The diner was maybe a third full, not at all busy. After an hour and a half we asked where our food was, apparently being plated up. Our food turned up 10 minutes later. Look at the burger in the picture, an hour and 40 minutes for that ? Really ? Two of us got what we ordered and two of us didn't. All of our food was served to us cold, cooked but cold. So had it been sitting in the kitchen for an hour and a half ? One of my friends ordered Hunter's chicken, cold. I ordered a burger, luke warm, another friend had fish and chips and mushy peas, cold, which she said were as hard as WW11 bullets. What do you say to an eleven year who's paitently waited that we need to wait all over again. We told a member of staff our food was cold and they offered to replace it, there was no appology for the wait or for the food being cold and for me that was the final straw. We asked for our money back, still no appology and we weren't asked why however the girl who served us was pleasant and polite. I can't express our disappointment enough. Afternoon wasted and what should have been an enjoyable day out ruined. If someone had taken responsibility and told us there had been a mix up or shortage of staff or whatever reason that explains an hour and 40 minutes wait we could have understood. Based on on our experience I won't be returning.

Never thought I would give The Lock Kepper 5 stars, I had really gone off the lock keeper after my last few experiences, bit hit and miss with quality of food, sometimes service can be slow on carvery even when quiet, staff not particularly friendly, not the cleanest place I've eaten, but ....... I visited today to meet friends and WOW what a transformation 👏 The staff were friendly, polite and patient, the carvery was extremely eye pleasing and the taste didn't dissapoint, plenty of veg to choose from, clean counter, decent portions, and Tracey was lovely. A nice clean environment throughout the pub, only minor negative I spotted was whatever they are cleaning the tables with is smearing them and a few food marks on menus but so close to being a 5🌟 I gave them it anyway. Onwards and upwards 🙌 Under new management and my god you can really tell. If you haven't visited in a while, give it another chance!
