On the Newtownards Road in East Belfast, Bingi’s Kitchen is a fantastic little restaurant serving authentic Indian regional cuisine.
We were recently invited to try the menu, and we were bowled over by the wonderful flavours, textures and aromas of the dishes.
Starting with traditional Pani Puri-an immensely popular Indian street food of crispy, hollow, fried dough balls (puri) which we broke open and filled with potatoes and chickpeas together with spicy water. The Dhahi Puri were already stuffed with tasty fillings and drizzled with yogurt, and the Samosa Ragda Chat was a spicy chole chat served with veggie samosa.
In fact, Bingi’s kitchen is a vegetarian paradise, with many meat-free dishes on the menu.
We continued our feast with a delicious Hyderabadi Paneer Dum Biryani with Mint Raita: probably one of the tastiest and fragrant biryanis we’ve ever experienced. This was accompanied by an Egg Burji-a delicious sweet and spicy scrambled egg dish with fried paratha.
We were keen to try Bingi’s Kitchen’s famous Dosas, but we were so satisfyingly full, we’ll have to postpone this treat until the next time!
To finish, we had some cooling, yogurty Mango Lassi, and two traditional Indian desserts, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla.
Bingi’s Kitchen has been closed for a two week holiday, but will reopen on 10th September, with some fantastic new menu items and promotions. The restaurant is BYOB, and the opening hours are 12:00-22:00 Tues-Fri and 10:00-22:00...

Read moreIf you’re looking for flavoursome, authentic Indian cuisine, this is the place to go. I ordered a delivery of 2 dishes. Really enjoyed the potato-filled masala dosa - and sambar, a lentil soup-like accompaniment to the dosa , complete with small chunks of a vegetable called ‘drumsticks’ (for the uninitiated, you don’t eat the skin!) The Hyderabad biryani is served with pilau rice on top of whole pieces of chicken leg. It really was the nicest I’ve ever tasted, the chicken was beautifully flavoured, almost fragrant, as was the rice. It didn’t come with a vegetable side dish as is usual but perhaps this is what makes it a Hyderabad biryani and doesn’t need any more dressing up. Both dishes were on the spicy side as typical of South Indian cuisine. All in all, a beautiful home-cooked style meal - and I can even forgive the courier for not pressing the doorbell when the food was delivered (!) meaning it had to be warmed up...
