EDO is one of the greatest examples of fine dining tapas on a budget. The level of skill from the chefs is incredible and it was shown in every dish. The tapas formula was easy to follow especially with a small group. All of us ordered 2-3 dishes per person and shared each single one. This led to us having a really fun dining experience. We shared our opinions on each dish as we ate together while finding room for more plates as they came one after the other.
The braised beef cheek was beyond phenomenal as if I was made out of gelatine. It simply disintegrated in my mouth and melted away like meat flavoured butter. Packed full of flavour and textures as the accompanying elements added a level of contrast on the plate. This dish was a showstopper and will live long in my memory. The tenderness was outrageous and it was clear to see that there was nothing but attention to detail throughout the entire cooking process.
Every other dish was incredibly fresh, packed flavour punches and felt unique from eachother. I was full by the final dish and that’s exactly what you want from tapas. You want to eat until your heart is content and then rank each dish from best to last with your dining guests.
I had langoustine ceviche for the very first time and I think it’s safe to say Edo set the bar with this one. The texture of the raw langoustine caught me off guard as I expected it to be a mushy mess. It was far from that as it had some bite to it and immense flavour that I can’t describe. Delicate yet powerful in its beauty.
EDO is an absolute knockout, well deserving of their Michelin Bib. They are doing something incredible in Belfast and it’s no surprise why they’re always fully booked. The value for money is impressive to say the least. You’ll eat like a king and come out feeling like you didn’t break the bank like you would in other substandard restaurants. That is one way to bring your customers back over and over again without fail.

Read moreEdo follows the trend of a few Belfast eateries with it's wood fired oven, industrial / modern setting yet undoubtedly still cosy and the tapas style starters and light courses. So if you're going to stand out, you need to do it well. And Edo does!
Others in the group had ham croquettes and monkfish scampi. Being a seafood lover I was spoilt for choice, eventually choosing the softshell crab and oysters off the special menu. Both were fantastic, best oysters (from Dundrum according to staff) I've had in quite a while.
Main course from 'Bertha', the wood fired oven was salmon, steaks and beef cheek. All went down well although the beef cheeks were apparently on the salty side. I went for the skate wing with raisin and caper butter sauce, again off the specials board. This. Was. Incredible! Succulent fish with a hint of smoke and char from the oven. The sauce had huge flavour too. Again, on the edge of being too salty for some maybe. A brilliant dish. Veg, chips and potatoes done various ways all hit the spot.
Desserts.... well, all bar one couldn't resist the curros. Fresh, crispy, soft but not doughy with a rich chocolate sauce. Brilliant. Pannacotta looked good too, accompanied by fresh berries and fresh baked oaty biscuit.
Simply put, I really look forward to eating here again. Slight criticism for salt levels and another fish option on the main menu would be good. Mind you, if the skate wing stays on the specials I won't look past that. Others would have looked more variety of meat but beyond some game or venison, I thought it was fine. And finally, I'll always be disappointed at the lack of draught Guinness.
Minor criticisms aren't enough to mark it down though, I'm with Jay Rainer on this one. Edo is one of Belfast's...
Read moreFirst of all, we went with high expectations because it was a restaurant on the Michelin list. However, we found the taste of the food, the atmosphere of the place and the attitudes of the employees to be average or below average. Besides the criticisms, we loved the truffle potato croquettes and dessert. We definitely recommend those who visit to try these two but we think the price is not good in terms of performance. For those who are interested, we have listed detailed comments about the food, atmosphere and other topics below.
Atmosphere: Considering the capacity of the place, there were more tables than there should have been. This caused us to become very close to the people at the next table. In addition, for this reason, the waiters had difficulty in serving and they frequently hit our chairs, causing discomfort. The place was very noisy in general.
Food: There was generally a lack of taste in the food, for example, when eating paella, there was no desired taste. The mussels were very small. We loved the Potato & Truffle Croquettes and ordered them twice. The desserts were also very nice. We also loved the orange, almond & Olive Oil Sponge & Cinnamon Ice Cream and Chilled Chocolate Fondant & Salted Caramel and think they should be tried when you visit. Tortilla de Patatas, pommes pont neuf, truffle & parmesan were not very good. It can be said that there is an average taste range on average.
Service: The employees tried to show as much attention as they could. But in our opinion, we sometimes had difficulty expressing some of our requests because they were insufficient in number. Other than that, we agree that they do their best in everything...
