If it wasn't for the staff the rating would be lower. Staffing would most likely be a 5 star. Having never ate at Pizza Express I was excited when my wife was given vouchers by her previous employer. I looked up their website and was quite impressed by their culinary selections unfortunately the excitement ended there. My wife and I attended and were impressed enough by decor, atmosphere and staffing. The menu isn't bad but could probably do a slightly better selection. We ordered drinks a koppaberg and prosecco. £6.40 for a prosecco seriously!! Starters I ordered Caesar salad with white anchovies instead of chicken I thought how interesting and especially love anchovies. My wife ordered cheesy garlic bread and having seen this being delivered to another table thought that as a good choice also as it looked outstanding. For main we asked about the size of the pizza and were told that the really thin base was crispy and around 14" and that the classic base was thicker and around 12". We opted for the thin base spicy pizza between us. Starters arrived fairly promptly, presentation was decent but I soon realised my anchovies had swam away as there were only 2 yes 2 anchovies in the whole salad. The. Caesar dressing was next to none leaving the salad very dry. My wife gave me a piece of her cheesy garlic bread which from the outset looked great, that was the best part of it, the garlic was non existent and the base was a gooey greasy doughy mess. Not impressed so far. Our pizza arrived and I was dismayed for the fact that they had already cut the pizza and separated not professional at all. The toppings on the pizza were miserable at best, flavour was good but the base was atrocious. The base was paper thin, not crispy at all but floppy soggy and greasy. Not what you would expect from a pizza place and the other foods although giving the appearance of fine dining certainly aren't. After this we decided not to go for desert. This restaurants saving grace are their front of house staff unfortunately even though decent front of house staff are hard to come by they could be replaced if they were the problem here but aren't. The problem is with the food being decent, ample quantities and what they find acceptable to put out of the kitchen and to get the right staff here is like finding hen's teeth so for that reason I won't be back. Having attended here it leaves me thinking Hot Igloo Glengormley should be a 9...
Read moreA very frustrating and disappointing evening spent here tonight. A few of our party arrived 15mins early and I informed the staff member if this was not convenient we could come back, to which the staff member responded with "its better for us that you are here now as we will not have to take a load of orders at once". We were hurriedly given menus and at the same time I asked if we could order drinks the staff member seemed a bit flustered and in a rush and responded with "I've just to take another order over there first then I'll get drinks".
We had specifically came here because of the £8.95 deal on classic pizzas as advertised on the website, however when we asked about this we were told it was £7.95 if you download the app, there was no mention of £8.95 for non members as advertised. Our party of seven proceeded to download the app which was an ordeal in itself as it involved signing up as a member with email, using a verification code, having to enter our postcodes twice as it doesn't accept the first go and a few other frustrating attempts that meant we were on our phones for ages rather than engaging with each other. We all felt like giving up which would have meant paying near double for the same pizza. We told staff that we specifically came for the deal and were told that unless we downloaded the app and that particular offer then we would each have to pay full price of £13-16 per pizza. The manner this was explained in by a woman I assume to be in charge was quite blunt and as if she were fed up with the whole thing which is understandable as it must be highly frustrating for her and the rest of the staff.
In fairness to her she helped us to sort the discount at the end using the app but the owner needs to sort this out as staff did not seem overly happy to be working there, they seem very stressed and frustrated and this does not make for a pleasant dining experience.
The food itself was pretty basic, definately not worth £13-16 so I am glad we got it for cheaper although still not worth what we paid. Overall a very disappointing experience which has put me off ever returning to any pizza...
Read morePizza express hosted our wedding reception! We absolutely recommend Pizza Express Bedford Street for any meal or private function.
We planned on having a small wedding in a family garden but two weeks beforehand the covid rules changed and that was no longer possible. We called lots of places but as soon as we spoke to in Pizza Express Bedford Street they were so helpful and accommodating we knew it would be a great choice! Ellen and team were so friendly and helpful with brilliant correspondence. They even let us up to the room the day before to decorate which was so kind of them.
We had a meal for 14 people including 2 children and it was brilliant, with something for everyone. The group was split by way of bubbles and those bubbles socially distanced (this was in October 2020 and within the rules). Their covid measures were second to none. The QR codes were on the tables to check in, all staff wore masks and when the staff entered the room we were instructed to sit down and/or wear masks. It was great that covid safety was such a priority as we had some vulnerable family members attending, we really appreciated the attention to detail. Thank you again, Ellen and team. As soon as you re-open, we will be there!
Pizza express is a family favourite so everyone was happy! I must point out that my favourite starter is the Bruschetta Con Funghi which hasn't been on the menu for years and when my lovely husband mentioned this to the team, they offered to make it for us! I was so grateful and it made...
