Very delicious, authentic cantonese cuisine
What a treat it was to be served such great food, I definitely rate this place highly, and more importantly it got the wife's seal of approval. "Very authentic, actually" she says... which means it's pretty damn close to what you'd get back in actual China, where food is love and everyone is one big family.
I can't speak on value for money because the friends we met for dinner did the classic trick of paying for our bill before I had a chance to do the same myself 😂
Service could have been a little more attentive, but they were there when we needed them and we had no issues
凉拌海蜇 (cold jellyfish), 8/10, delicous mix of spicy and refreshing, jellyfish doesn't really have much of a discenable flavour but it's more about the texture which is somewhere between gelatine and fresh pasta. Hard to describe how nice this is until you've tried it. 炸肉 (fried meat), 9/10, Can't remember if this was pork or beef, but either way it was crunchy and sweet and savoury and delciois and now I want to go back and eat it again! 芥兰 (chinese kale), 8/10, one of your standard chinese greens, lovely and tender, broight a good refreshing balance to the meal. 烧鹅 (roast goose), 10/10, sumptious soft meat and glassy skin, this goose was so incredily good. "best one I had in the UK" says the wife, which is about the highest praise you're gonna get. Especially considering I took her to Imperial Treasure in London which got a bit of a shrug - this girl has high standards! 酸辣牛肉 (spicy sour beef), 8/10, wafer thin juicy slices of beef in a spicy and sour soup. This is basically 酸辣汤 kicked into overdrive. Delish! 鲫鱼豆腐汤 (carp tofu soup), 8/10, beautiful mild dish, creamy soup with fish and tofu, a perfect accompaniment to the spicy dishes we had ordered.
Overall this was excellent food with absolutely no compromise to Anglicise it at all. Fusion has it's place, but...
Read moreAttended this venue on Friday 27th June and booked for 7pm for 8 people. Due to road closures of practice band 4 others couldn't make it. The four of us arrived at 6.55pm. Was seated promptly. We waited until 7.20pm to order food. We ordered 6 dishes including two (2) veg Chow mein. Beef Ho fun with no veg, beef black pepper and fried rice, and two veg dishes. We waited for further 1hr and 20 mins to find food was still not brought to our table. Prior to this time two separate enquiries were made to staff to which we were told still not ready. Due to very poor service we all decided to leave, this was at 8.45pm believe when I say we checked the time. I spoke to manager who was not helpful and instead for reasons unknown was shouting back at me. I simply said I would like to pay for the drinks and wanted to leave as the food was still not here despite 1hr and 20 mins for 6 basic dishes. I would like to invite the manager to comment on my review and perhaps so I can understand better why no food was brought to our table. Perhaps a reason given with consumer in mind would be helpful as we had no customer service. I look forward to a reply. I would be happy to return to venue should a reasonable response with an explanation be...
Read moreFirst of all, the food quality was good. The roasted duck was fabulous and my husband really enjoyed 蒜蓉炒通菜 which we did not take a picture. In spite of the good food, we did not have a good experience in this restaurant. I’d have to say this is one of the places with worst service in the Uk I have encountered.
When we asked about the differences of two fish dishes, the waitress replied in an unwelcoming tone, “they cooked in different ways”. I supposed if she was not sure, she could have asked other staff members?
And this was not a once off event. I later asked about the portion of the bowl of rice, and she replied, “a bowl”. If one have experience of eating in a Chinese restaurant, one would know a bowl could vary a lot in size. I explained I wanted to know the portion as I didn’t want to waste the rice while I have a young child aged 4 with us. I got an answer that each person should order one bowl rice. I did so, and turned out we had to waste one full bowl of rice, as shown in picture 4.
I saw some other reviews claiming staff members were helpful. It might just be us - as this was the one and will be the only time we are visiting...
