Same Happy was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel unwelcome with cold stares and judgemental attitudes, as if serving us was a burden. There was absolutely no customer service, no greeting, no basic courtesy, not even an attempt to engage or be polite. When we asked for an extra plate, it was handed over carelessly, with no regard or respect. To make matters worse, the staff were eating their own meals at the same tables as customers, showing a complete lack of professionalism and hygiene. The whole atmosphere was off, cold, unfriendly and honestly just bizarre. It felt like we were intruding rather than being served. This is not how any restaurant should treat paying guests. I would not recommend Same Happy to anyone. There are far better places to enjoy Chinese food without being made to feel like you...
Read moreI was told by a friend that Same Happy has the most authentic Cantonese style roast, so naturally, I had to come by to try them for myself. Atmosphere was buzzing with joyous chatter in the restaurant, resulting in a warm and cosy feel.
First off, the food was delicious! I ordered the double meat on rice combo (char siu pork & roast duck), which came out fresh and hot. The meats were tender, and authentic to taste. It brings back nostalgia as I’ve always frequented Hong Kong, so I’d always have roasts when I’m there. Only thing I’d say is that the duck has a stronger smoked flavour than the usual roast ducks I’ve had, but it’s still superb regardless!
Hong Kong Iced Lemon Tea was authentic and was a great chaser for the meal.
Overall, highly recommend this gem of a restaurant! I aim to try all their roasts and noodle...
Read moreThis place mostly attracts members of the Chinese community which to me is a sign of great Chinese food. Customer service isn't their main concern, good food quickly is. The 3 meat combo is my favourite with duck, char Sui pork and crispy pork belly. Everything IV had here is lovely. Be confident when ordering , but don't expect sweet and sour chicken balls or chicken curry as this is more authentic than your local takeaway. * Update... Been in the newly expanded shop and retract my previous comment about customer service... The ladies who work here are lovely, and there was no rush to order, finish or leave, while the food is still perfect. £5 per bottle BYO is a bit steep, but stick to the Chinese tea. Probably the best authentic Chinese food in...
