Calthorpe Arms — Restaurant in Birmingham

I usually get takeaway from here, but recently when I ordered Chilli Soya, I was given chilli Chicken instead. As a vegetarian, I was extremely distraught when I had eaten some of this and although the soya looks a lot like chicken, as it’s covered in the same sauce and comes with onions and peppers, it was very clear that I had been given chicken instead Of what I had ordered. When I called and spoke to the manager, who remembered that I had ordered soya- he apologised and said all I can do is say sorry and there’s nothing more I can do! He insisted I bring the chicken back then and there, which wasn’t practical as I don’t live nearby. I bought it in the next day and all he did was insist that the chicken I had eaten was soya. The chicken had been taken away and they gave me soya back, poor portion sizes and they didn’t even compare them both, as funnily enough the manager disappeared before we could! Clearly guilty! I would have respected him more if he had held his hands up to the mistake. Clearly they need to carry out quality control here. I wouldn’t recommend visiting here. As a vegetarian, I found the manager insulting my intelligence even suggesting I had eaten soya by showing me a frozen packet of soya. Like that helps at all! Bad review, but...

First time I've seen it open after a long refurb!

Very nice inside. 👌 splendid I must say!

Open, spacious and has a modern feel to it.

Orderd a variety of food from starters menu.

The usual mix grill chilli chips fish pakore tandoori Prawns grilled etc etc.

Mix grill was okay 6/10. Not the best. Didn't come out sizzling, onions weren't well done and some of the palate was cold. That may be down to the kitchen trying to get orders out quick and clear the backlog?????

Tandoori Prawns, and fish was nice. Something different.

Their drink selection of whiskey could be better with some premium macallan, glendfidich, jw, to name a few!

Customer service was on point even from the main gaffa himself doing table rounds!

Get a music machine...

Its very risky knowing that this is very very near me. Came here to order takeaway for the first time and me, my friends and family enjoyed it very much. The portion sizes were very good.

We ordered chicken tikka jalfrezi, fish madras, spicy garlic paneer, fish pakora, veg curry and chilli chips. The only none spicy item was the veg curry. The rest were so spicy but SUPER yummy. My favourites were the jalfrezi and fish pakora. The prices were amazing. Next time I will definitely sit in, the restaurant is actually very spacious and has lots of parking spaces. The staff were...
