China City — Restaurant in Birmingham

We have eaten from here on many occasions and always been happy. Unfortunately on this occasion we have been left disappointed. Our plain roast chicken, chips and gravy (without peas as stated) was packed with mushrooms (not on the menu). When we called and spoke to the lady on the phone she was as puzzled as we were and offered to change it. As my partner was hungry he was going to have some of the chips until the meal he originally ordered arrived but was unable to do so as we were asked to return the whole meal. We ended up having a debate about returning the meal as she stated she was only going to through it in the bin. So as i sat eating my meal my partner had nothing. The correct meal arrived and we returned the meal minus the chips as the lovely delivery driver told us to keep the chips. I tend to order from different chinese take aways just to see who is decent and who is cooking neighbourhood cats. So I call up CHINA CITY and after a 30 second phone fumble I am met with the voice of a screeching child/toddler and this infant is not mistakenly picking up the phone but is actually responsible for interfacing with customers it seems. Luckily she is smarter then the people running the place and if you actually get them on the phone because placing an order over 20 quid isn't something you want a child necessarily handling they act like you just stopped them from making their 6000th iphone of the day. First time I have used this takeaway albeit its around the corner from me. Food arrived about half an hour after ordering and was very hot and fresh. Flavours and textures of food just right, light, fresh and not at all oily, with beautiful spicy aromas. Great value for money as there seems to be quite a lot per serving. I would say if you order for 2 you can stretch the meal to 4, but I guess it depends on what you order. Mine was mostly curry and chow mein dishes with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts as a supplement , which in this order were superb! Defo worth trying this takeaway if you haven't before.
